Chicago is going to install 350 more speed cameras. They have reduced speed limits to around 20mph on most streets already or so it seemed the last time we were through there, probably, 10 years ago.
They are talking about using them to catch those behind on child support, and a host of other things. In other words they will scrutinize all cars that go past them.
I don't plan on going through that place ever again even before this.
I really don't like being subjected to this stuff.
As is proof, in thousands, of records all across the Internet, it is about the money.
I don't think this qualifies as political.
perhaps the correct category is infuriating.
I don't worry about things like that......mainly cause as a general rule I try to observe traffic laws and on those occasions I don't (little over speed limit, rolling stop at empty intersections, etc.) if I get caught by camera/patrol car....I was wrong and pay the ticket. It happens....no big deal. Not the crime of the century.
'Person Of Interest' is just a TV program. And I'm not interesting enough/dangerous/habitual criminal to get OCD over it.
These are illegal in VA and you will get pulled over if it is observed in your vehicle.
As I see it, traffic cameras are no different than video surveillance cameras used to convict people of other crimes (vandalism, shop lifting, burglary, murder, etc). As long as a LEO reviews the images prior to sending out the ticket I have no issues with the cameras.
As far as generating revenue would you rather your taxes be raised or have additional fees added vs. collecting money from those who break the law?
I know a young woman that last year had lost her drivers license. One day she went to get her mail and in it was a ticket for driving without a license. Seems one of the cops wives had told her husband that she saw her driving. So, the cop wrote her up a ticket and mailed it to her. (So much for having proof) Anyway my friend was able to prove she was somewhere else at the time and got out of the ticket. Thankfully she was seen by other people in a different location or she would have had to pay for something she didn't do.
JMHO, if you obey traffic laws, why worry about the speed cameras or install a radar detector? Like Old-Biscuit said if, on the rare occasion you do get caught, pay up, you were breaking the law...........
CavemanCharlie, that is one of those "he said, she said" cases, it did not involve a camera or radar.
How often have we been driving down the highway, minding our own business, and some idiot does something stupid and we say to ourselves, "where are the cops when we need them?"
