Springs are ready for replacing on our rig. Looks like a straight forward job, I upgraded to wet bolt and ez flex last year. In looking at the oem springs is/ are there any numbers that will tell me what they are for part number and weight ratings?

Also given that the springs are sagging if I can not find any numbers how do you recommend I go about measuring the spring sizes?

I just pulled mine down to the RV parts place and they measured for me. Springs and an an axle. They said I could do it, but since each is custom made, if I screwed up, I had to eat the cost. If they measure and make a mistake, it was on them. There was no charge for them to do it.

Custom part? That seems a bit strange. What type of trailer do you have, brand/ make?

Dexter has replacement springs in many sizes on their website. Same with etrailer.com.

I recommend increasing the number of leaves by 1. Most of the trailers I've had, seen, pulled have inadequate springs.


Semi-"retarred" in 2006. :-) 2008 Newmar Cypress 5th wheel, 2008 Dodge diesel dually to pull it with.

Thanks for the help now here is probably a really dumb question but... when searching online for a "spring shop" is that what I should look for? or "trailer repair"?

Try "trailer springs" or "RV springs." And type in your town or city.

When I replaced the springs on my Jayco's 6,000 lb axles, I went to a local spring shop. They match them up. Only cost around $25.00 each a few years back. Made a huge difference as the old ones had flatten out considerably. The job was straight forward. It is recommended that the U Bolts be replaced. The spring shop made these for me as well. I had some difficulty finding bronze bushing of the correct size for the wet bolts. They were around $5.00 each when I did find them.

I now have to replace the springs on this Everest. These have flattened out to the point of breaking the shocks. Seems a trailer's suspension designed life is short.

They are measured from eye center to eye center, unloaded. 25.25" and 26" are common. I went to a trailer candy store when I did mine. The 2600 lb springs hadn't sagged at all but they didn't have enough arch/travel. I found 3k springs with 1" more arch and they were .410 thicker material (same number of leafs) but they were 26" C to C. I had to do something to get more travel so I got them and moved the front and rear brackets 3/4". It cured all my problems and road MUCH better and was worth every bit of the trouble. I'm not as ambitious to do that kind of work, anymore, so I'd probably have a spring shop build something with the same centers instead of doing that cutting and welding again. FWIW, I talked to a spring shop and the length and arch is touchy when you have equalizers/shackles because the shackles can flip under on real rough roads if all the geometry isn't right. Craig
