I am only interested in auto seeking portable sat antennas. Which of the portable auto seeking sat antennas is the best to use with DIRECTV with a HR 24 receiver? I understand none will give HD is that correct?

VuCube, Carry-Out, pretty much any of them are comparable and work just fine. We chose the VuCube 2000 and have been very happy. We have DISH but it works with any carrier. Find the best deal, regardless of model and go for it.

We upgraded both our DVR's to HD. That's why we chose The Traveler to replace our Dome. Both automatically search for signal and we don't have to carry around a portable unit or find an unobstructed place to put it.

Is the Travler a portable?? It's looks to be a roof mount. If so don't you still have to park with an unobstructed view of the satellite??

No, it's not portable and no one can walk off with it. But it's great for HD.

Watching the video on setting up the VuCube it looks like it's still a manual type set up having to use the on screen signal meter. I'm doing that now with a portable dish. I just want to put the antenna outside and it auto adjusts itself. Is there something i'm missing about the VuCube set up??

Then you need to go with the Winegard CarryOut. Hook it up, set it out reasonably level with an unobstructed view of the southern sky, and turn it on. Go get an adult beverage and by the time you get back your tv is working.

VuCube 2000 is fully automatic. VuCube 3000 is fully automatic and in-motion capable. VuCube 1000 is manual.

Correct. NO portable automatics will get DirecTV HD.

The problem with the Traveler is that it is a Slimline 5. If you're an HD customer you only need a Slimline 3. That's OK, it still works unless you have an obstruction preventing the dish from locking in on the 110 and 119 satellites. It will continue to search for those two satellites you don't need and will not settle for just the 99/101/103 satellites. They could make a software correction to fix this but, as far as I know they still have not.
