It depends on a few things. One of them is do you want HD channels/
I just bought a Winegard SK-3005 TRAV'LER Gray DIRECTV Slimline KA/KU Multi-Satellite TV Antenna which gets HD channels. To the best of my knowledge the VuCube, Carry-Out will not receive HD channels.
The next thing to consider is if you have a motorhome and want to watch TV while moving. Both the SK-3500 and the VuCube will only work when you aren't moving. If you want something that works while moving it will cost a lot more

I once read that studies have shown that most accidents occurr within 10 miles of home, so I moved

Correct. NO portable automatics will get DirecTV HD.
You are kind of correct, the Winegard SK-3005 TRAV'LER Gray DIRECTV Slimline KA/KU Multi-Satellite TV Antenna is technically not portable but it is small and light enough to use it as a portable dish. And it will get HD channels
I plan on mounting the dish on a plywood board then mount the board on a Black and decker workmate bench.
If it works the way i expect it to all I have to do is mount the dish on the B&D bench and plug it the power, it should find all the birds in about a minute.

silvercorvette,
Looks to me like you are giving up most of the advantage of having a SK -3005 if you use it as you plan. Sounds like you will have a very large and heavy piece of equipment to store and set up. Even folded the Slimline and base are massive.
For the price, I can't see that this is any better than hauling a Slimline and a tripod. The SL3 is very easy to set up, with a meter and you can get one with the arm that folds for storage.

You will get better.
One suggestion for personal set up: Don't get a Slimline 5 but rather a Slimline 3. The 5 is much harder to get the tilt/skew correct and it is because of the 110 and 119 satellites. You will likely never use these satellites anyway. They are mostly used for SD locals. You will never use the SD locals because you will have the same channels in HD coming through the KA (99/103)satellites. If you ever set up an 18" round dish the SL3 is equal in difficulty. You must already have a SL5 if you have set it up. You can replace the horn with the SL3 from Ebay for cheap.
On edit: You don't actually have to replace the SL5 with the SL3. All you have to do is tell your receiver that you did. It will never know you lied.

I mentioned in another thread that I posted I mentioned it took hours to get my dish set up. I just want something I can put on a stand, plug it and walk away and have it set itself up.
There are a few reasons I want to avoid installing it on the roof, I just picked up a 2006 Jayco and there is a good chance I may want to trade up in a few years.
I am going to be driving up to NY soon and spending a few weeks there, if the set up does not work I will install it on the roof for my trip to AZ at the end of the summer.
By the way a 28 footer has more than enough room for one or two people and two dogs and there is a lot of storage room under the bunk house beds.
If you do this, please post photos. I've Googled the idea to death and it appears you may be the first.
I will post photos.
In a couple weeks my Aunt is flying out from CT to visit my mother (her sister) in a nursing home. Them I will drive her back to CT an spend time in NY clearing out my mothers house and putting it up for sale. The house in NY does not have cable so it will be nice to have TV while I am in NY. And since I have health issues that prevent me from driving without taking frequent breaks it will give my aunt something to watch while I take a break from driving
I mentioned before I wanted to delay the purchase of the dish till September to slow down the spending but I convinced myself that it is almost a necessity for my next trip to NY.
