I have always camped in private campgrounds but am camping for the first time in a state campground this weekend. My question is do the state campgrounds have a cold water tank fill station? Or do I need to fill before I leave my house. I do know it does not have water hook ups at the site.

Will vary by State and CG in a State. Most of the time I'd say yes.

Depends on the state and the campground....
Many state campgrounds like WA and OR have full and partial hook up sites and all have fresh water availability.

Check on line or call for whatever state and campground you are considering.

NY has electric only but has a potable water fill station. Fill before you park

Use one of the review sites such as http://www.rvparkreviews.com/ to look up the park. They usually have information on the available utilities, as well as user opinions of the park.

Some parks will have spigots every so often. Here in NC they will tell you how far your site is away from one of the spigots

Check the web site for the state park. If it doesn't tell you, get the office phone number and call.

Most will have potable water available for filling FW tank, often at your campsite. Verify online or call so there are no surprises.

Most, and I use the word most, because some of different; Virginia state parks have water and electric at the sites. Most don't have sewer.

I LOVE Virginia State Parks.
