marble will be 16 in Sept. she was always a small tortie weigning no more than 8 lbs. She is smaller now and I had her checked in the fall and she was healthy but small. She can eat a can of food in the m orning and one at night and anything else you can give her and she gains no weight.
Also lately she has been sleeping in the towl rack above the washer. The litter boxes are on the floor . She has been peeing and craping in the laundry basket of dirty clothes or on the washer. She only goes to the bathroom once a day no matter how much she eats or drinks. Usually at night I make sure she goes before she goes to bed for the night so she doesnt pee in the bed. She doesnt drink a lot of water.
Is it because she doesnt want any of the other cats around when she uses the box so thats why she does it on the washer? Is she getting senile? Is there a medical issue.
I am planning to take her to the vet for a check up.
Any ideas? There is no blood in her urine or feces and she doesnt look sick or act sick shes just thin.

Sounds like she is dying. As an example my MIL quit eating, had trouble holding her bladder. Once she was diagnosed it only took a week. I think it might be time for you to consider putting her down. Think of it as better than what you are going through and what she is going through too.

You might give her a de-wormer. Eating that much but not gaining weight can be a sign of parasites. Just a thought.

She needs a blood test and urinalysis, there are several possiblilities. Kidneys, thyroid, and diabetes would be the top three that I can think of. Until you rule those in or out you can't do much of anything.

I would have put it more gently than Donn did, but the symptoms she is exhibiting are nearly identical to those displayed by our 13 yr old Calico before we had to put her down. She also became very cuddly and wanted to be near us in the evening - she was sorta "stand offish" her whole life and had not done that since she was young. The tests suggested showed that her organs were shutting down and her time was up. As much as I hated to let her go, I had to for her sake.

I'm sorry to hear Marble is having these problems. Please have her evaluated by your vet as soon as you can. It may be decision time or there may be something that can be done to improve her quality of life... at her age and with her symptoms it's hard to tell.

She could of course be at or near the end, but many times correcting something like blood sugar or thyroid levels, or changing the diet and adding some fluids for a kidney issue, can make a substantial difference and give months or even years of quality life.

Why are you worried that she is not gaining weight if she has always eaten this much food? She is eating, drinking, pooping and peeing. She is running around like normal. The only problem seems to be the litter box thing.

Did you change litter brands? Is it clean enough for her? Maybe she needs her own box and not a shared one?

My friend's cat lived to be 22. He looked ancient but kept going. I hope your kitty is well and just getting persnickety in her elder years. He did.
