Well - Cool Canuck is a little off base when he says the course at Rio Bend is not too good. It is challenging (for ME anyway).

We stay at Sunbeam Lakes and have for the last 10 years or so (except this winter past) and hopefully will be returning for winter 2012. Personally I think Yuma is oversold, BUT that's what makes RVing a treat! - if you don't like where you are, move on down the road.

There are MANY activities to take part in, or not at Sunbeam, if you don't like to golf at Rio, then head to Barbara Worth about 20 mins.East - or Del Rio, in Brawley maybe 30 mins. north, or even Borrago Springs about an hour away.

If you go you will meet many BCers, Albertans, Sksak. plus other assorted Canadians and a lot of nice Americans as well, the park is about 50/50 each and VERY competetive when it comes to golf.

Google up Sunbeam and have a look, or just look here http://sunbeamlake.com/

Just don't take MY spot.

Thanks for that. Sunbeam Lake sounds nice. When you say the people in the park are competitive about golf, are you talking about Sunbeam or Rio Bend? I am competitive when it comes to golf, enjoy playing in leagues and such, but my wife sure isn't. She is purely there for the visit and fun, will pick up her ball if she isn't keeping up, and doesn't mind if she finishes or not.

I did send an email to Sunbeam but haven't heard anything from them. Are they typically slow to respond (2 weeks)?

Lake Havasu. You are doing what we did 2 years ago, and we kept going back to Havasu. We are not old enough for Yuma or Pheonix. Arizona is not that warm in Jan or Feb so do not rule out Baja as well. March the temps are getting better and April is better yet. This year was great

We went down the west coast this year. Left on Jan 24th, Got to San Diego feb 1st.
Went to Yuma Feb 3rd and stayed there for 2 weeks. We were not happy with the number and condition of the Golf courses in Yuma,so we moved on to Casa Grande. We enjoyed the variety of the courses there and the prices are right, around $30 -$35 including the cart if you wish to ride. Good choice of rv parks. Close to Pheonix and Tucson ! WGC Accenture Tourney is in Tucson if you are interested in a Pga Event. Spring training camp for major league baseball is in Pheonix in March. We will go back to Casa Grande next year but take our time getting there with some stops on the way and on the way home in the Spring.
Try the west coast route and stop where you wish. Don't worry Too Much about reservations. Check out a number of the areas the folks have mentioned above and in the following years you will know what you like/don't like about each.
I5 from L.A. to San Diego is not in good condition, but just slow down and it's O.K.. Californis needs some money to be spent on I5 !

dfm, actually I5 South of Lost Hills is where the bad stuff starts. North of Lost Hills is in good shape now, except for the bumps under the overpasses.

We stayed one time in the Laughlin Nevada, Bullhead City area and there was lots of things to do . We are not golfers but some of the people we met said there were several courses in the area and they were very reasonable. We stayed in Needles Ca. many different parks there and it's a little over half an hr. to Lk Havasu, Laughlin, 1 1/2 hrs to Vegas etc. We travel down the I15 through Montana right down to Vegas. The one year we detoured at Pocatello down through Jackpot and it was a nice trip, flat road and all but very long lonely stretches of road and not to many towns. I think it is quite a bit further than going through Salt Lake. Last time we came back through Ca. on I5 and it was not bad other than rush hr. through Portland and Seattle.
