Hello, I'm new to the forum. I just bought my first class A, a new 2011 Thor Serrano with a MaxForce 7 diesel engine. I haven't even picked it up yet and I'm thinking about where to go first! I can't wait to take it to Port Aransas and stay on the beach, but my friend (who has a 5th wheel) says taking a motorhome to the beach is a bad idea. When I took my Jayco trailer to the beach I always saw many nice motor homes. I'm just wondering what others think about this? Is there anything I need to do other than wash the RV thoroughly when I get back to Austin?

your friend is probably worried about the salt air, salt spray, etc. if you were gonna be living on the beach i think that'd be one thing but for a short visit i think you'll be fine. we're also headed to port aransas after stops in the tucscon, az and silver city, nm areas. enjoy your new MH!

It is yours, you can take it to the beach if you want to.
I would not do it. No matter how much you wash it, you will never get ALL the sand and salt out of every nook and cranny.
Not to mention the sand that WILL get inside, in the carpets, no matter what you do to prevent it.
Then there is the stress on the undercarriage when you have to get a big wrecker to pull you out of the sand!
No, I wouldn't do it.

It's probably a little like taking a MH onto a frozen lake-----------maybe you'll be OK and maybe not. I got stuck in my own lawn once-------don't ask how.

Maybe I should clarify... there's no way I would drive my RV on the beach although I do see people who do. I like to stay at a nice RV park (Pioneer RV) next to the beach. It's on the other side of the dunes so we don't get much blowing sand. But we do get plenty of salt air and humidity.

We have stayed many times right on the waters edge. Even had to move one time because the lake was coming up to fast. Yes we stuck it a couple of times and needed to be pulled out. Back in the day we would dig holes to put the tires in to level the rig rather than put it up on blocks. We launched the boats using a front hitch or rear hitch.

I took my MH there over Christmas break. Nice park. Pretty good size sand dunes between you and the water a 1/4 mile away. Just wash it pretty good when you get back and rinse the undercarriage good. Lots of concrete and grass too, so plenty of opportunities to get the sand off your shoes, I just wear flip flops and leave them at the door

I'll join that club. Got stuck in my parent's lawn twice - once trying to get parked for an extended stay and once trying to get out!

Good times.

The first sign of trouble was me asking, "are you sure that will support 16 tons?" What's that saying - "if you have to ask..."

We have a 2007 Itsca Meridian DP and have taken it to the beach about 20 times.
Never had to have a tow truck hook up.We usually camp about 50 yards from the ocean so maybe the weight helps(got into some spots that I thought I would not get out of)
Yes it does take alot of work to keep it clean but just wash a clean after every use.We think it is well worth it

Usually the soft sand is at the beach entrance/exit points based on my experience at St Augustine, Daytona and Mustang Island, Texas driveon beaches..
