My sister and I are renting a motorhome for a short trip to the US. We're departing the Montreal area on April 24. I can't seem to find a campground that would be open on that date along our route.
I figure that our destination, for the first day (we're both newbies at this), should be no further than about Watertown, NY. (Rough itinerary: Montreal, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Morgantown (WV), Albany (NY), Rutland (VT), Montreal).
Does anyone know of campgrounds that would be open, on that date, around Watertown?
I've done some business travel along the lakes up there. You're about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks too early for the State Parks system and my experience has been that commercial parks pretty much mirror the opening dates of the State. JMO. Obviously, the further south you drive, the easier it will become. Good luck.
Woodalls has a great search for off season camping. Put in the state/provence and city and hit search, when it comes up click on show more search options and click on "open all year" then update search. I just ran a search for Watertown and got 7 hits including Rideau Acres Campground in Kingston Ontario that opens on 4/15

Just used Trailer life's RV Roadtrip Navigator 2012 and found a bunch of them open all year round, in that area, like "Old Forge" and "Singing Waters", about 20 mi North of Utica, NY. There is also the Half Mile Ranch in Lake Luzerne, NY and more.
Association Island opens in mid-May. Old Forge, Utica and Lake Luzerne are all a long way from Watertown.
The only thing I can recommend is that some state parks will allow you to park on the sites, but the dump stations, water and electric are probably not available until they open for the season.
There is a Cracker Barrel at Exit 46 that normally allows overnight parking as well as Walmart at Exit 45.
Sorry I couldn't be more help...

When my grown kids were inspecting our new fifth wheel, one asked why we bought a trailer that sleeps 4. My reply was that we couldn't find one that sleeps 2!
