I have had Dish for 2 months now. It seems to have pros and cons. I pay $7 a month for the 211K reciever that belongs to them. I use for my MH. I can't get a straight answer from them. If I buy a reciever, can I get it hooked up and not have to pay the $7 a month? If not, what would be the purpose of buying one? Dish reps keep me confused.

The reason you can't get a straight answer from them is because the people they have answering the phones don't know the answer either.

I live in SD and winter in TX. I take the receiver/recorder with me and put it in the MH on the way down...I call Dish to get local stations when I stop for the night. As I move on and out of that Footprint I call again. When I get to location for winter...I move the receiver into the 5'er that we have. There I have two tv's and just the one dual receiver. They use an antenna on the back of the receiver to transmit the signal to the bedroom TV. There is a short antenna on that one also. Works fine and no wiring problems.

When we go out gate guarding in the MH I take the reciever and a tripod with dish on it. with us. Takes very little time IF it is level to get a signal and we are in TV heaven again.

Dish has been good to work with. I did have them come to location as dish and LNB's were bad from hail storm. No cost to get new. I do have their insurance as someone else wrote about. They never had to rewire at all in the 5'er and I just run the dual cable in the window of the MH as it is temporary install. We have an inmotion dish on the MH but it does not let us record shows and watch another. So we have the tripod and dish to solve that problem.

I am thinking of upgrading to their new recorder that records a lot more stations at once. Will see some reviews first on it.

You may want to check out Dish Networks new Pay as You Go plan. I hooked it up in AZ this winter. The Dish Tripod and Receiver was less than 300.00 dollars. I own the equipment. Set it up, call or go online to actavate service with a credit card, and your good for the month. If you won't need the service next month, don't pay the bill and its shut down until you need it again. There are no charges while your shut down.We pay 34.95 for the months we use it, and that includes local channels.

Yes, if you agree to a 2 year contract.I did 2 years ago and they installed all the equipment including the reciever in my RV for free.We have been happy with the service.

Does direct TV or Dish TV come out and set up your rig? Who owns the equipment? Dish,DVR's etc. I see some DVR equipment for sale different places. Is that permissible and does it reduce the cost of the service? My cable company at home provides all the equipment and replaces it if it is bad for free.
Thanks

We full time, and have Direct TV. Works great. I have a small 18 inch portable dish with 100 feet of cable. We use a DVR from Direct TV. I am getting to be an expert at setting up the dish. I use an inclation device that gives me the elevation I want, and a compass for azimuth.

When we first hooked up with Direct TV they provided all of the equipment for free (except we pay $5/month for the DVR). They came out to the camp site and hooked everything up for free. They installed a small dish (18 inch) with 100 feet of cable. Now, everytime we move I set up the dish myself. It can be a problem if you have a lot of trees around.
Direct TV tells me that I can not upgrade to HD. It requires new equipment (free) but costs another $15 or so per month. Bigger dish.
Call Dish and Direct TV. Be firm.

We plan on purchasing a used MH soon..

My plan on TV is an in motion Reciever on the roof, going to a small custom computer I will build with a TV Card installed to view and record TV Live..

I am suprised that no mention of this option of this has been covered.. This way, with the comp connected to the main TV, we can also do 3D Gaming ..

To me it seems to be a great set-up, no fees ever...

Thoughts ?

Thanks...

How will the dish receive the signal and transmit to your computer w/o a subscription? Also the inmotion unit only picks up one station at a time so if you want to record one program and watch another it will not do it. That is why I have the dish. So you need to get one with more LNB's. My unit was on the MH when I bought it and I never use it going down the road anyway.

Maybe I am just not TV/Computer receptions literate. Maybe that is the reason no one has suggested it.
