I have a 2006 Holiday Rambler Ambasador. I would like to upgrade the thermostat. What is the overall opinion on the best digital thermostat to go with?

There are lots of them that are good and will work great...as long as they are battery powered..(not battery backup and hard wire powered).

The install was very easy and straight forward. I did add a spst switch from Radio Shack to control the fan speed.

Here is the one I used....Click

You are right on the money Diplomat Don. I am having a problem with the heat cycle. If I set the temperature at 72 it will not shut down when reached 72. The cycle does not work properly.

Sandy, you more than likely have two DuoTherm Heat Pump A/C units in your coach. You can't just change out the thermostat to any aftermarket unit. These two units talk with each other and the thermostat via data cables.

If yours is broken, you can contact PPL Motors they'll help you figure out what thermostat will work with your units. Before you call, you need to remove the interior vent covers and look at what model you have.

Lastly.....Is there a reason you need to change yours out, you didn't say what the issue is. If you just want something that is more sophisticated such as programmable on and off times, I don't think you'll find anything that will work with your units.

Sandy.....ours is also terrible.....alot has to do with the location of the sensor for the A/C and heating. On my coach, there is a small white cage under the front TV that has the sensor in it. Again, I'm guessing that yours is in the same spot, with one more in the rear bedroom. The front one reads the heater temp. It was a TERRIBLE place to put it because of the heat and cold that comes off of the windshield. I removed mine from that location and had enough wire to pull it through the cabinet above the passenger seat and then drilled a hole through the cabinet and dropped it down by the manual sunshade.

There is also a rest procedure for the thermostat if you think that it is malfunctioning. If you're interested in the procedure, send me a PM with your email and I'll send it to you.

The reset procedure DOES nothing for operational issues. All it does is verify the DIP switch settings on each control board. Nothing else. Doug

While I know many here have been successful in using after market battery powered thermostats, I am a firm believer in using the a/c manufacturers digital model. They are designed to work with the a/c's that I have and they are are designed to run on 12v. Yes they are more expensive, but the warranty on my two a/c's doesn't come into question either.

That is NOT the tstat's fault. It is the PLACEMENT of the Tstat. Your CCC tstat system has 2 ways to sense the temp depending on what Monaco did on your unit. The wall tstat is the default ZONE 1 temp sensor. IF the wall Tstat is NOT installed on a interior wall but in an overhead cabinet or in a back hall way, then they use a remote Temp Thermister. This remote thermister will look like the one in the bedroom, either brown or white about 1 inch around with slots in it. Some Monaco front Zone 1 Thermisters were installed too close to the front dash area or by the front TV mount and that caused a higher than normal temp sense and under warranty back then they paid to relocate. So, If you do NOT have the remote front sensor, you can add one if the Tstat IS the sensor and is not in a good location to correctly sense the temp in the RV. But as others have pointed out, there is NO WAY to add any other tstat without spending hundreds of dollars on new ac control boards and then running the required tstat wiring from the AC units to the wall area. You CAN install a seperate digital tstat just for the furnace very easily on this type system. Doug
