We bought a used RV this morning and it doesn't have the original TV or stereo equipment. Where should we start looking for replacements? For the TV I figured any TV from Walmart would do, but was unsure of the stereo. It's a 2007 Jayco with 5 cube speakers embedded into the ceiling for surround sound....

Any ideas are appreciated!

You could look on craigslist for a used surround-sound receiver. Use it for all 5 speakers in the cieling and you can hook up your TV/DVD/BluRay/Laptop sound through it as well.

Most rigs come with a DVD/5.1 sound home theater system installed from the factory.
Mine died last year. It was installed in a small slot in the cabinet, so I needed one similar size. Don't know if you have the same limitation on space.
I looked for quite a while to find just the basic DVD/5.1 unit but could not find one. All I found were complete home theater systems with DVD player, 5.1 surround, and new speakers. So I went to Best Buy and found one that was the closest in size to my original and bought that. It was a Panasonic Bluray DVD/home theater system. Got the Bluray since we already had a number of Bluray DVDs.
Installed the new speakers using the existing wiring. New ones were better quality than the old ones.
Sounds much much better than the original no-name system.
Also replaced my TV with a new larger LED/LCD unit. Had to do a little custom install since it was larger than the old one.

As you stated, any LCD TV from Walmart or Sams Club will suffice, (32" can be had for $225 or less).
If you have 5 cube type speakers already in the 5er, then it has probably been wired for 5.1....if you can find the speaker wires, you could ohm out your speakers and find out which ones are which and purchase a 5.1 AV system brand new for less than $150, possibly cheaper...the $150 would buy you a Sony or possibly a Yamaha on sale..

All the above is what I've done to upgrade my AV system and TV...I have a Sony blu-ray player that I got for $40 at Best Buy on close out....everything works great and sounds great.

With 5 cube speakers you may also find one of those cheap subwoofers they put in the rv...If not, the cubes will not produce much, if any bass, a good sub can be had for $100 or less, just have to know where to look....All this will equal loud sound, so you may want to curb your enthusiasm to crank it up when neighbors are around.

Any 12 volt stereo from any auto parts store of salvage yard will work very well for you as long as it fits the space available. Good luck / Skip

My trailer uses the JENSEN automotive AM/FM radio with CD slot. You want something that runs off of 12VDC. It sounds great. The front/Back speaker selector on the Jensen radio is my Inside/Ouside speaker selection.

The only problem I found with using the automotive type AM/FM radio systems is everytime you turn it off you lose all the presets. I solved that by having a separate ON-OFF Switch (Radio Shack) which sort of duplicates the KEY SWITCH in the automobile.

Of course this will make the AM/FM radio another parasitic battery drain to deal with for when the trailer is parked.

For the TV we use the 120VAC HDTV like the 22-inch VIZIO from walmart. If we want to watch the HDTV when off the power grid we use a 600W PSW Inverter running off the battery to supply the 120VAC for the Home Entertainment Center items. You could get away with a 300W PSW Inverter but we have several items we like to always have on for when camping of the power grid so the 600W PSW Inverter suits us just great. ALot of folks use the MSW type Inverters but we always use the PSW Inverter as sooner or later you are going to plug something into the MSW Inverter and it will go up in smoke. WE just went ahead and installed a PSW type Inverter and now we dont ever have to worry about blowing up anything.

Welcome to the forum!

I installed a JVC car radio with CD player and an AUX. in jack. I replaced my junk Concertone stereo with it. I also installed a small amp to power the small subwoofer mounted in the cieling. the system sounds great and I can still have surround sound for DVD`s by using a cable I bought that goes from the RCA`s on the back of the DVD player to the aux. in jack in the radio. I can also use my Ipod/Iphone to play music through the aux. in jack!

Happy camping!
