We bought the fifth wheeler 2 years ago but had it delivered. We have been living in it in one spot but now we are going to travel around the country. I just bought a 3/4 super duty truck with 1 ton suspension and brakes and when I hooked up the truck and took all the jacks up on the fifth wheeler I got a 2" drop in the bed. What would be the normal drop before you would install airbags to the rear?

2 " is about perfect. Your truck is designed for that, I would not change a thing. You will find the ride to be smoother than when empty.

Two inches is about what happens to my 1-ton, and I've got a pin weight of nearly 2 tons. I think you're fine.

What is the gross vehicle weight of your 5th wheeler?

X2, the first two inches is pretty soft for good ride quality when empty.

At some point you need to get your rig weighed. The decision on air bags or not should be made on how much weight you are shifting from your front axle. We were shifting 140# which was really not enough to worry about but I put bags on anyway and now we don't shift anything.

I'm not arguing with the 2" others have stated. Just a personal preference: I added air bags to keep the drop down to one inch.

Vicious bumps on today's roads make me nervous without the extra support, plus I like to keep the headlights close to where they were intended.

If we all agreed on everything, wouldn't this be a boring world? And web site?

I had a two inch drop on my 96 gmc k2500 so sounds good to me.
