We just got back from a fishing trip to Santee Lakes in S.D.
Fishing is good, but they don't allow you to take your own boat.
There is 7 lakes and they do require you to purchase a permit, $9 for an adult, $6 for kids, but nobody ever checked the permits an I'm sure most people don't have them. We were camped 10' from the lake and fished most of the time. We thought about the overnight fishing at (SARL) Santa Ana River Lakes but never really had much luck there and for $60, and the hours only from 5pm-12am, I would rather go back to Santee.

Buena Vista Lake. I've been there once and that's an unforgetable experience. Fishing is best during the early mornings or late evenings when the lake is not being bombarded by boats and jet-skis. There is also 24-hour night fishing allowed in the campground area.

I've no house in the city, just a camping tent in the wild.

Castaic Lake (lower and upper lake)

I've seen people fishing from the shore at night.

Lower lake fishing, though I don't think they allow night fishing on a boat.

or at the bigger upper lake

I was just camping on tuesday & wednesday at the castaic lagoon & yes they allow 24 hour fishing from the shore.
The weather was ugly & we caught nothing nor did everyone I spoke to, but its close to me & you can park your RV with 100 feet from the water.
$20.00 a night & that includes dump & showers if you care to use them.

Taking your boat will coat you another 25 or so dollars or so because you have to pay for the boat & a additional fee to take your tow rig into the ramp. So we just fished from the shore.

No doubt, SCal fishing campgrounds are stunning. It’s a best campground for fishing or camping. The pool side view of this campground is wonderful. It’s a combination of beauty and charm. I think everyone should visit it once.
