I had this done before but cannot find the paper work. How much do you pay for an oil change for a DP and the generator?

I'd say that you need to tell us the type of engine and how many gallons or quarts it holds.

Need more info as to what engine are you talking about. My caterpillar 3126 E holds 19 quarts of oil with the filter change.

OP, I see now why you do not have the info for your rig in your signature: "8 RV's since 2000" BUT it sure would help. Next to doing it yourself, looks like SpeedCo is the most reasonable.

This post is my opinion (free advice). It is not intended to influence anyone's judgment nor do I advocate anyone do what I propose.

CW charges $89 and up for gen oil change, probably more now that oil is sky high. My 7500 Quiet Diesel holds 3 quarts, so about $15 for oil, another $10 for filter, $10 for labor for the CW mechanic. In other words, a minimum of $50 profit for CW.

You can do the gen yourself in about 20 minutes including cleaning up the mess.

Any local garage will do it for a lot less than CW. The engine depends mainly on quantity of oil.

The $190 price is what I paid a year ago. It may have gone up. And that doesn't get you CAT or Cummins filters; there is an up-charge for that. I also don't get a break for only using 19 qts, which doesn't seem fair. Seems like I should be able to bring a gallon jug but he said they wouldn't fill it.

Boy, that is a good deal. 40 quarts of oil here will run close to $4/qt ($160) and the fuel and oil filters will run another $30 to $40 bucks. Doesn't leave much for labor.

I always do my own, getting the Rotella from Walmart and all the filters (oil, 2 fuel, air, and hyd (ps) and also all for the generator too, for about $100 from filterbarn.com and will spend most of the day doing the job. I once had a CAT place do this and they gouged me for over $600 bucks.

I do the genset myself; really easy. The annual chassis oil change; fuel filters, lube is a Speedco type place and it is $190 for up to 40 qts. of oil, including two fuel filters, oil filter and lube.

The Freightliner dealer across the street charges about $300 for the same service and takes two hours longer.
