If registering a MH under a Montana LLC the question of insurance comes up:
(1) it looks like insurers do not want to deal with the LLC insurance directly (or it makes it much more expensive) and hence insuring the MH as a 'commercial' vehicle under the LLC doesn't work very well?
(2) insurers seem to want to insure the drivers of the MH with the LLC added as an additional insured on the policy.
If (2) is the more likely scenario, will this pose a problem if stopped out of state?
I have not had the problem you mention. For the two vehicles in my Montana LLC, I have had a very good experience with Garden City Insurance in Missoula, MT. (866) 444-1084. The insurer is Triumphe Casualty. Frankly, the process of obtaining and renewing insurance has been efficient and friendly. I would heartily recommend them. I was pointed in their direction by John Bennett of Bennett Law, who administers my LLC (and who has also made the entire process extremely painless).
In case it is important for your purposes, my truck is registered as a "Motorhome (CV)", and my Teton fifth wheel is registered as a "Trailer (TV)". There's nothing commercial about either -- all private. Both registration and insurance are to the LLC, not to me personally.

PS: My home state is Hawaii, and there's no way I was bringing the vehicles to Hawaii for a registration inspection. So, we had to pick "somewhere" on the mainland to be the truck/trailer's home. We picked Montana. Don't ask about where the vehicle is garaged. That changes from year to year, and so yes, we are technically offside when we "garage" the unit in (for example) Arizona for a few months. But we take that chance because we're not Arizonans, and it would be ridiculous to "re-domicile" the truck/trailer wherever we park it at the end of a season, only to change that domicile next season. So, we picked Montana.
