Do people seriously go out of their way to flogg the 6.0. Geesh. I guess no other brand has ever experienced an engine failure. The damaged discribed by the op is not a typical 6.0 or any other type motor failure.

With barely 100k miles on an 05 tow truck?? On motor number 2?

Must not be much business to have a truck for 7 years and only have 100k on a work truck.

I simply don't believe it.

Or the owner is terrible at maintenance and don't change the oil in a truck that gets driven what 15k miles a year?

Something about this story from the OP sounds fishy... Dropping a valve is something I never heard happen on the 6.0 psd.

Now I've heard of Cummins dropping valve seats causing some nasty catastrophic failures!

Dropped valve

I'll let you supply a link to your second statement.

I think it is time to say that the Ford 6.0 is much worse than the old 1990's Chev 6.5.

The worst diesel engine of all time - except for maybe the Ford 6.4.

I think the 6.0 is not as good as the old GM diesels JMO. and for the 6.4 If properly set up is OK but will never match the reliability of the 7.3 again JMO, but my 6.4 has 2x the hp/tq that the stock 7.3 had, and with more( power) you sometimes get less(reliability). So far no mechanical problems with mine but it has had several other probs.

What tuner was on the engine?

The engine was 100% stock except for exhaust rerouted to clear the hoist and a high-power alternator to run the strobes.
