There is a question that has to be answered. Has anyone had a Maxxis M8008 tire fail? Or any Maxxis tire? If you have what was the failure mode and cause if known. Tread separation etc.

I'm running Marathons made in U.S.A. now. But since they have moved the plant back to China it looks like the next set will be Maxxis. I have never seen an LT tire for 14" wheels.

After my trailer alignment fiasco, and everybody telling me I "just needed to get some good tires on it", I just returned from my first, and longest trip of this season, with my new Maxxis. We went to Bowling Green, KY over Easter, about 1700 miles, and so far (knock wood) it doesn't look like there is any unusual wear on any of the tires yet (one would hope, right?). The OEM Kendas started showing feathering and uneven wear about 3000 miles in, so time will tell. I'm also running the balancing beads inside, whether it helps or not is anybodys guess. It tows and handles great and I hope to get many years of trouble free service out of these tires.

It looks like almost all OEM tires that come with trailers are not balanced. You are describing the classic symptoms of a balance problem.

I will be taking mine over 3000 miles to Canada in a couple of months time with my Goodyear Marathons. Will report on performance when I get back. I know it is not regular but it is a start.

Update here.

When ordering your tires be sure to tell the dealer and/or wholesaler that you want 'fresh' tires. When I got my new set of Maxxis this spring, the dealer told his wholesaler that he wanted 'fresh' inventory. They were less than 6 months old. One thing about Maxxis is that there is such a high demand for them that you are pretty much assured that they will not be very old.

Beware of the DURO brand from China. Nothing but trouble.

Just had mine installed last weekend... week 35 of 2011 installed week 26 of 2012... not exactly fresh, but good enough for me.

Yes, 3 so far this year. Almost 5 year old set of 4, belts have separated on 3 of them. Load range E 225-15 tires, loaded toy hauler is 6-7k. Set on the front axle went at the same time, replaced those hoping I could skate for a bit before the next purchase. Nope, next trip one of the rear started as well.

Going to roll the dice and try the Towmax.
