Interested in upgrading my F-150 to a larger truck and next year maybe go to a fifth wheel. I have been looking at used 2007-2011 F250 and F-350 but most of the gas units under $30,000 have high mileage which I would rather avoid. I have driven the F-350 with a long wheel base and the ride is much smoother than the shorterF-250.
I have never owned a diesel and my question is would any of you diesel pros. consider a 2010 F-350 6.4 with 112000 miles and what maintenance expenses should I anticipate? The body and interior look brand new. Any input will be much appreciated.

The 6.4s are orphans, stay away from them (not because they are not any good, but because I don't like orphans.

As a first gen DPF equipped truck it is a technology that is immature and many issues arise.

I would not get a diesel unless you absolutely need the power, etc.

If you must, there are not many good choices out there.

I'd go new F-350 6.7, knowing that also has its issues.

Love my Duramax / Allison.
I have owned two Ford pickups.
They were fine.
Duramax / Allison is undisputedly the benchmark that every Cummins and Powerstroke is compared to.
Just like the guy that says " My Firestones are just as good as Michelin's "
They might be but the fact is the Duramax and Michelin are the class act in their field.

There was a major upgrade in 2011. Diesel it seems to me depends on how much you drive, since they are supposed to last much longer. And where you drive, that low rpm torque makes a big difference in the mountains.

Mmmmmm, never even considering comparing an Izuzu powered GM to my IH powered Ford and I suspect most Dodge/Cummins guys would say the same

Have a camping friend with a 6.4L F250 pulling a decent sized 5th and he's having pretty decent results as far as fuel mileage and power, no complaints.

I have a 08 F 350 with 62k miles. If you can make sure the maintenance is up to date and hasn't been neglected. Stick to the severe maintenance schedule which is oil and filter @5k miles and fuel filters @10k.
As stated get an extended warranty no matter which brand you decide on. They can all break and are expensive to repair.

Personally, I would not buy a gasser to tow with. My chipped up '01 F250 did everything I asked of it and never left me on the side of the road. It got great fuel mileage as well.

I had no confidence in the Navistar 6.0L or the 6.4l engines. The 6.7 Ford engine in the '11 and up seems to be a winner. I really like mine.

GM, Dodge or Ford, as long as it's a diesel. They all have their good points.

I'm at that older age where I'm easily amused by comments regarding which truck to buy. All of the big three have had their years of successes and years of mediocrity in their attempts to be innovative or complying with ever increasing federally mandated regulations.

If money wasn't an object, one could order new what one liked for whatever reason and live with the decision. If money is an issue and the used market is your better source, then research the offerings made by the big three and choose the one that; a) does what you need it to do, b) is rated better than the competitive offerings for that/those year(s) and 3) fits your budget.

Recognize that you will continue to have fuel and repair costs aside from insurance. Technology will increase over the years and you may have to make another decision down the line. Or, you may reach the age where you decide it's time to get off the treadmill and what you currently have will suffice for your needs. It's been that way since brothers Charles and Frank Duryea founded the Duryea Motor Wagon Company in 1893, becoming the first American automobile manufacturing company.
