Thanks for the replies, everyone. OldBiscuit, I don't know how you got that search going, I tried just the word "mattress" and only in Travel Trailers portion of the Forum and got nothing. Thanks, I appreciate it.
So a trailer queen mattress is 60" by 75" and a regular queen is 60" by 80"? Does everyone agree with that?
Ray55 - That 4" topper from WalMart, is that firm? That heat build up is what I was talking about. We had a spin off all memory foam in our first camper, nice and thick, but boy it did concentrate the body heat.

This is what we bought. We got the 11 inch thick one because I wanted to make sure my knees didn't hit when I turned over (it doesn't)
This memory foam does not leave indentions when you move (like Temperpedic)
It can be hot but we just put on a nice thick polyester mattress cover and that solves the problem.
We LOVE it!

We spend enough time in our rig that we installed the same mattress as we have in the house - dual chambered sleep-number type (don't remember the brand) and a 2 inch foam topper.
Our backs never notice the difference between sleeping in The Big Bed of Comfy 1 and The Big Bed of Comfy 2.

When we replace our mattress (which I want to do soon!)I think I'm going to get a short queen as our butts up against the dresser drawers & I'm concerned a regular mattress with a "frame" around it will damage the dresser. The one we have now doesn't have any kind of "frame" around the base of the mattress so it it flexible but doesn't provide the support I want. To make up for the lost length, I'm going to do as someone suggested on these forums. Get a piece of foam to place at the head of the bed which will scoot the mattress down, but it will compress when we put the slide in & I think will take care of the damage of the dresser. I'll put it under the mattress pad & sheets like it's part of the mattress and our pillows will be on top of that, so I'm hoping this will work...I may end up trying it at the foot of the bed, but it might fall off there.

We full time and may be in a different position than some. After 5 years with the original mattress that came with the unit we contacted a mattress manufacture while we were in the Portland, Maine area. They custom made a mattress that was the same size as our original but with a completely different firmness, that was in 2009 and the mattress is still like new. This way we got the right size and the correct firmness for us.

When we purchased our trailer Rockwood had an option for a mattress upgrade which we bought and that upgraded mattress was a Serta Mattress which is the same kind we have on our bed at home and it's just as comfortable.
Since we are nearly full timers in our travel trailer having a good mattress was high on our list of things that we wanted. We've spent approx. 690 nights in our trailer while out of state over the past 28 months and if the mattress was not comfortable I'm afraid we'd be in an apartment or motel by now.

Like many here I to hated the factory mattress so it was promptly replaced. I did a ton of reading and decided to give the Air Dream mattress a try. I have had a select comfort and it was.not my cup of tea. I really love my latex mattress at my home but was not ready to shell out that much cash so for the price I felt the Air Dream was worth a try. I have to say so far I am totally happy with the purchase. It may have been designed to be aired down and folded into a sofa but it works great as my main mattress.

I should add...the Air Dream is a nice cool mattress to sleep on. I would rather be cool than hot so it works good for me

Being in the business it always amazes me as to how the mattress question comes up all the time. Why shouldn't you sleep on your weekends and vacations so you can be well rested on return. Buy a decent quality mattress for your trailer and it will last as long as your trailer. Most can accomodate the 80 inch length if you have room or just be careful sitting on the end of the bed if it is not designed for an 80. When I bought my trailer being able to put in an 80 inch mattress was mandatory. We also order in the RV length for Simmons Beautyrest in certain models so you can get a shorty in that size in a decent mattress as well. Sleep numbers work well for Rv's but very expensive. Lots of foam/memory foam out there as well. Remember good memory foam is not cheap so make sure you spend some money or you may end up getting what you pay for in the long run. Lots of newer gel/foam technology out there right now as well. Lots of options depending on budget and comfort. Look around and make sure you ask when going to a retailer as you may be surprised what you run into to for RV's.

We just bought a queen size memory foam mattress topper from Walmart and put that over the awful RV mattress. It's not perfect but fairly cheap and beats the heck out of the thin hard mattress alone.
