Ok in my 2003 25 J Mallard the previous owner replaced the Dometic frige with a Home Depot 17CF frige. I supposted this is Do to a recall back when. He decide to replace it with the Magic chef brand. OK it does works and it fits in place just fine!!My concern, is this safe to do. or do we need to make sure is a TT frige?
Thanks in advance!!!

I take it the Magic Chief fridge is an 110V AC only.......as in a residential fridge.
Many RV absorption fridges have been replaced with residential fridges.
Only down side........have to have external power source (Power receptacle/generator). No using propane.

The main DOWN side of using a 120 volt AC compressor driven fridge is that you can't use it while going down the road or when dry camping. As long as you plan on camping close to home in RV Parks or campgrounds with electric hook ups the fridge will be just fine. It will also weigh about four times as much as a standard RV fridge so it will take a big bite out of the cargo carrying capacity of your trailer.

Other point is to be sure that it is secured properly for travel. An RV fridge mounts in a recessed cabinet that holds it in place. Most residential fridges are free-standing, so be sure that it is secured propoerly for travel, ie bolted to the floor and/or wall. Also RV frudges have door locks to keep them from opening enroute. You can use bungee cords or similar to keep the door on the residential fridge closed.

from the store. also, is energy star compliant, 389kwh/yr (wish i knew the amps)
there's big differences in size and weight between std house fridge, apt sized and mini's. 359 vs 1300. hmmmm what's in MY wallet?
as for mounting, intend to put back where current one is, up on the padestal, and yes, firmly attached, and yes some additional door catches, only light weight food on glass shelves etc.
sure, need to handle some concessions, but if i had the cash, i wouldn't be driving a 24 yr old either.
