has anyone been to Old Orchard Beach, Maine recently. We have a 40 ft. Fifth wheel and would like to spend some time there. thanks.

Before we were campers we stayed in a motel for a few nights back in 2009.
It has a fantastic beach...and is super crowded when there is no school.
It has plenty of places to eat...99.9% are tacky fast food joints.
It has plenty of watering holes...99.9% are frequented by the local drunks and troublemakers 24/7.

The beach is crowded, the food isn't good and troublemakers are all over town !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you want peace and quiet, don't go to Old Orchard Beach in the summer. If you're looking for fun and excitement, you'll have a great time in OOB.

I've been to Old Orchard since I'm a kid, and I need to clarify the above.

The Beach is crowded: It's a tourist place and of course it is crowded during the summer months. Just like any tourist destinations on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean.

Tacky fast food joints: Of course there are fast food joints (It's America), but there are also some fine restaurants in OOB and in South Portland which is 10 minutes away.

Local drunks and troublemakers: All I saw in bars are tourists having a good time.

Welcome to Maine

Why go to the fine restaurants or fast food places when you can do this at your campsite!!

We stayed at Bailey's in 2010 and liked it. We had a site in the back that was very roomy and quiet. We were there in July - ocean was freezing!

Us too, last 6 years.

Everything drenjoey said and more. We go to the "tacky tourist fast food places" in the early evening, enjoy the amusement park, shops on the pier, the fantastic beach, ... all the "tacky tourist" stuff.
