I read this post on a full-timers blog...

The post... In checking into Medicare (DH enrolls in 2 months), we’ve learned that people who have a legal residence like ours (in SD) , where we never live and never stay, are having their Medicare Insurance canceled. We’ve been advised to change our legal resident to AZ since that’s where we live 6 months of the year or longer. This is why we are staying in AZ a couple of days longer. We will be getting AZ driver’s licenses and then head out.

NOW that post just seems a bit strange. Medicare is good anywhere. I just got my card in the mail for part A & B which goes in effect July 1st.

I also just revised my Ins. from my former employer to their Retired Supplement Ins. that is good anywhere. Just like my old Ins. but it pays above the 80% Medicare pays.

So I did a search to see where they came up with this. Did find some Private Advantage Plans that have been cancelled in some states. But never original Medicare.

But to to make a statement Medicare is being cancelled for fulltimers and they have to change domiciles...

Other things these people may have not have considered is the cost to change domicile states. Insurance costs, AZ state taxes, vehicle and 5er lic fees.

And the bottom line... they are domiciled in SD and want to change to AZ. What makes them think they have a physical address in AZ for Medicare or for a drivers lic. Wont they have to get at least a PMB in AZ. That would be the same thing for Medicare that they had in SD. May have a bit of trouble getting a AZ drivers lic with a SD PMB address.

If your medicare premiums are deducted from your Social Security check the only way medicare will drop you is if you request termination.

Only Part D or Medicare Advantage Plans can't be used in another state. Regular Medicare should be no problem. I'd call them.

Changes in Medicare
If you have Medicare Parts A and B, those benefits will not change when you move to another state. If you have Medicare Part D, you may have to switch to another prescription drug plan because not all plans are available in all states. If you have Medicare Part C, a Medicare Advantage Plan, you may also have to switch to another plan because not all Medicare Advantage Plans are available in all states.

DH has been on Medicare since 2000. We went full time in 2005 and changed our domicile to SD with a PMB. Have never had a problem with Medicare parts A & B & D.

With regard to Parts B & D, you have to do your research as to what plans are offered in "your" state, but if you select from the list of available plans, there is no problem. That is true for whatever state you live in. Certain plans are offered in certain states. Some have requirements that you don't leave the state for more than "X" number of days. Don't pick that plan if you are a fulltimer. Most Part D plans are nationwide provided you use a national chain pharmacy, but again. . . do your research.

NOT true.

My wife and I have Advantage plans and receive coverage both in PA and FL. And we have coverage in most, if not all states under our Blue Cross/Blue Shield Advantage plan.

My wife and I are residents of SD and we both have Medicare A&B, Medicare
supplement through AARP and Part D thru Medco and AARP. Never a problem
in traveling. Have been in numerous hospitals myself during the last
six years with no problem. Medications are ordered and shipped to whatever
location we tell them.

Notice that the person "learned" from others that someone, who they didn't know, was having their Medicare cancelled. And they are acting on it - - hard to believe that someone would make changes based upon what they "heard" third handed, but people do stupid things all of the time.

Never had a problem with either Social Security or Medicare because of our address. Of course they don't send anything by mail to us most of the time it is all done online.
