While up in NC last June we took a trip down to walmart to pick up some things and we had a large brand-new cooler in the bed of our truck with the cover closed. When we got back to the rv I went to get the cooler and it was not there so I asked the wife if she had opened the top and she said no so apparently while we were inside shopping some one decided they needed our cooler more than us....

We got initiated, I guess is the term for it, while at Ocean Lakes last week. Had a great time. The day we were leaving, I was outside and noticed our cooler missing. Long story short....it was located near the beach minus the beer. The sodas and water were still in it though. Good thing it mainly had beer in it I didn't like...lol

After talking to a couple of others there, they said it happened to them as well before.

So make sure when you are camping, no matter where, that you secure your cooler at night.

So, theft is getting "initiated"? Happened to others, as well?

Acting morally straight, including duty to others are fundamental to the campers way.

So like I said, go ahead and do your 'urban RVing' where you need to secure your property; but don't presume to advise others "no matter where"; I camp where I don't worry about criminal behavior; that is, with CAMPERS

Indeed! I don't think his intent was to "presume to advise you", I believe it was to make the point that unsavory characters can show up anywhere. Even so called "campers" (tent, boondockers, RV parkers, etc.) are not exempt from the occasional shady character. There is no moral test one has to take to go camping, so I doubt if a certain type of "camper" is automatically guaranteed to be of the highest moral character!

It doesn't follow that just because somebody has not been a victim that all the types of people they may run into in their way of life are above petty theft. It just means you have been fortunate to not have interactions with them. May you continue to be so fortunate!

I normally sit my Yeti cooler filled with beer and some other drinks right outside the door of my TT. From time to time if we leave the site I will put it inside but while I'm there....even sleeping I've always left it out. I may go ahead and buy a wire cord and start locking it...I can either lock it closed or just keep it locked so it can't be removed.

The fact that it's a Yeti means if someone is going to steel it they are steeling it for the cooler not what's inside. My truck has a Roll N Lock bed cover so I can also lock it up in there but it's more of a pain to access when I need a fresh beer.

I had a friend that camped for years, same campground every year and every year he would have beer taken out of his cooler. The last time was 3 years ago. He got bottled beer with twist off caps. drank the beer then peed into the bottle put caps back on set bottles upright in his cooler. Next morning all were gone, haven't had a beer stolen since.

Yeah wasn't for the cooler. I assume it was kids looking for the beer. However I am glad that we did take the smaller and cheaper cooler. I would of been angry if it was the better cooler and I didn't get it back...and if it had my good beer in it too...lol
