hey fellas, just finishing outfitting the new dually to tow the fifth wheel. I had the factory installed GM mud flaps before i took delivery but i am looking at a rock tamers design type mud flap for when i pull my fifth wheel. Iam a welder and would just make an identical copy of them for less than 1/4 the price. I do have a couple questions though, for those of you who run them how do they stand up during a regen cycle? id presume their would be enough air flow around the mudflap/exhaust going highway speeds to disipate a good portion of the heat? and i have the denali pkg so all black painted bumpers, should i be concerned about the tamers taking rocks and throwing them back up at my bumper and making her look like swiss cheese?

I just bought some custom molded flaps for my dually. They work just fine. While DW does not like the looks of them I think they are fine. Unless you are in a lot of gravel I really don't see a lot of stuff being kicked up by the tires.

I just found a set of Rock Tamers on Graigslist for $100.00 and bought. Ran them on the truck for a week and so far no heat issues.

Its pretty amazing how little actually hits the front. I just have the Ford flaps and no rock chips.

I might eat my words someday if I drive through a gravel topped pavement job.

I have the same flaps but I changed out the ugly stock exhaust for a Banks when I took delivery of the truck so I wouldn't' melt it. I have regened plenty of times with the rock guard in place and no problems whatsoever.

How about some nice aluminum diamond plate on the front of the FW instead? Mine came that way.

I have a rock guard and I have a 2011 GMC duramax. It melted the right hand side plastic and warped the rock guard. I cut the right side off as well as the left. I also had mudflaps installed on the dually that hang down to 4 or 5 inches off the ground. I have anti sail mudflaps so between the mudflaps and the modified rock guard, the job gets done.

I have had to drive thru 10 miles of dirt/gravel road in a Wyoming road project in wet weather and and you would be amazed how much stuff hits the trailer with only truck style mud flaps on the truck (Duraflaps). Also, some states "chip seal" roads in the midwest. This
is a layer of fine gravel put down over an oil base. Traffic packs it down and then the excess is swept up. Six miles of this some years ago chipped the front of my 5'er and the trailer of my new boat. Now I have Rock Tamer full flaps on my truck and on the rear of the 5'er. I don't mind "the looks" as I want the protection.
