Hi all. First off, I've enjoyed reading these forums for many years and only recently joined the conversation. I've got a problem with my insurance company (you know her as "Flo"). The short story is: 3 years ago I was transferred from KY to MA. we decided to try and sell our 2002 Coachman Cross Country via a dealership consignment in KY. After 2 years and no offers, we decided to drive it to MA and use it at a seasonal campground as a summer retreat. Before driving it, we got insurance to be covered as our previous policy had lapsed. Today, we received a non renewal notice from the ins company indicating the Motorhome has an unacceptable body style. At first I thought it was just an excuse to not cover a 10 year old Motorhome. I called them and they told me that because the Motorhome is parked at a campground, with a hard connection to utilities (I used a PVC pipe for the sewer) that this was more like a park model and they could no longer insure it. Moreover, they gave me only a 14 day notice. What am I missing here? Aren't most motorhomes parked for long periods of time? What other questions shouldi be asking? Should I appeal? Will this affect me getting insurance elsewhere? With only a 14 day notice, should I contact the insurance commission? Thanks in advance for you thoughts and comments.

Is it registered in MA with registration plates on it? That should be the only requirement. Auto insurance is quite convoluted in this state and as a result, many of the larger companies do not do business with MA residents. Not sure about Progressive. We use Plymouth Rock and so far, are very happy with them.

First, welcome to the forum! Since the point of contention seems to be the hard connections, couldn't you just use the sewer hose? We had a park model for several years and it was a lot cheaper than our motorhome insurance so you might be better off insuring it that way.

I wouldn't contact the insurance commissioner because that would take far longer to get any result. Call another carrier and find out your questions. Specificly ask about a MH that is park at a seasonal site and what constitutes no longer being a MH.

Maybe you are giving your ins. co. TOO much info that THEY do not understand.

One obvious solution would be to remove the PVC. What am I missing here?

How did they know? Where you required to send them a picture of it parked? Is that how they found out?

It's probably what I said, too much info given to the ins. co. that they do not know how to process...

Thanks all. So the MH is still registered in KY. The plates expire next month. Maybe that's the issue here. Also, I offered to remove the hard PVC and just use the sewer hose, but the ins company said too late. Finally, when I got insurance with them originally,I had to fill out a lengthy questionnaire which asked many things including how the sewer was connected. At that time I said it was a PVC that connected to the sewer and the hydrolic jacks were deployed. They then asked me if those were permanent to which I said no... Normal operating procedure... Quick disconnect, retract the jacks and away I go. After that, they insured me. But now it's different. I'm not certain if they sent an inspector out. No pictures.
