First weekend of camping!! So Sunday morning my daughter goes to walk out the door to the shower house and an alarm goes off. Scared the heck out her (I found that hilarious). Anyway, the stove/oven were off, fridge was working on electric, and furnace was off. water heater only thing using propane. propane alarm kept going off until we opened the roof vent and turned on a fan. No one could smell any gas. Can an alarm go bad? TT is only two years old. Ideas?

They can go bad and I have heard of other things causing them to go off to… like hair spray…

Do you have a dog?
Our Samoyed was sleeping with his rear near the detector... He set off the"gas" detector at 2:30 am on our last outing. Scared the heck out of us ---waking from a deep sleep.

I have a friend that works at a RV center, he had a TT that kept coming back for that very thing. It was replaced 3-4 times and they finally found the source it was onions in a drawer they were old and had been their a while.

They do go bad, but their service life is closer to 7 or 8 years and not 2. I had to replace mine at 8, and most manufacturers will recommend a 7 year service interval. It's always possible you have a very slight propane leak that you can't smell.

It CAN go bad but I'd have the water heater checked. I suspect it was a CO alarm not LP and CO gas is odorless (and deadly). There SHOULD be no way for CO to get inside the RV from the water heater but when things are not right, they sometimes do things they're not supposed to do.

When we purchased our new 2006 Wilderness our alarm kept going off. We would take it in to be looked at and nothing. This went on for about 2 months and then the dealer just replaced the unit and all was good. They do go bad and could be bad from the factory. They are not cheep so I was glad they replaced it under warranty. Good luck.

The alarm in my camper has (well had) a 5 year lifespan. The camper is 2 years old,BUT, when the camper was built, they installed one that was already 3 years old thus it died on me last year. Replacement was simple, however, cost of the part was $125.
If in doubt, pull your alarm out/down and check the date on it.

I found my exact model on eBay for $75. So if you decide to replace it check there first. In the photos the eBay ad showed the manufacturer date, because it's important with detectors of this sort. Make sure you know that it's not too old before spending your hard earned cash.

I have had ours go off on once in awhile for no apparent reason. I was always walking by it or had just opened or shut the bathroom door next to it. Still have not figured out what is causing it but if it continues, I'll be taking ours in to be replaced. It is pretty scary when it goes off enexpectedly.
