I've never understood why when a safety device alarms people think the alarm is defective. Your first thought should be that you have an LPG leak. Have a pressure drop test performed on your system.

Even if you are on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there.

Do you have a dog?

Our Samoyed was sleeping with his rear near the detector... He set off the"gas" detector at 2:30 am on our last outing. Scared the heck out of us ---waking from a deep sleep.

Hilarious!

I have had ours go off on once in awhile for no apparent reason. I was always walking by it or had just opened or shut the bathroom door next to it. Still have not figured out what is causing it but if it continues, I'll be taking ours in to be replaced. It is pretty scary when it goes off enexpectedly.

We didn't know exactly what caused it. We just knew the dog was sleeping there. Then I googled to see if that would cause it to go off and found this guys you tube video. I fell out of my seat laughing at this guy. His kid's chuckling at Dad's crazzy antics had me holding my sides laughing.

After 2 years of use ours did the same thing.I did check for gas leaks but found none.I also found out that any alchol based product will set the thing off to.Hair spray, open liquor bottle, jello shooters, sun tan products, and yes, methane gas!

Here goes my first noob question. I have not performed a search on the subject like I should but why could one (or a couple) of these battery operated units not work in an RV?

thanks everyone. Love the story about the dog setting off the detector. I do have a dog, but she wasn't anywhere near the detector. And yes, it is the propane detector. Says so right on the alarm. After it went off, I turned off the propane and we opened the ceiling vent and turned on a fan. After awhile we turned the propane back on and closed the vent and turned off the fan. It didn't go off again after that. I will vacuum it and check the date on it when I get it out of storage again next week.
