You know you are not supposed to start a generator under load then what is the advantage of the Champion going to remote start? Aren't you still going to have to go outside and unplug and start then replug? Or did is there a delay built into the generator? Sorry for a dumb question in advance

No such thing as a dumb question. Don't know your set up. But you should turn off all load before starting any generator or stopping it. Most RVs today have a transfer switch that will allow the genset to come up to speed and voltage. Before switching over.
Starting and stopping one under load. Is the main cause of voltage regulator failure.

turn main breaker off inside (which should already be off, if you let the generator cool down for a minute before stopping), start, wait a minute or two, turn main breaker back on.

No don't have one...was just thinking the remote start advantage would be negated by having to go outside and re plug RV in. Wasn't sure if throwing the breaker was enough. Doesn't the RV's on board battery charger come on at all times?

I'm assuming we are talking about a portable generator?

For what it's worth, everything is turned off with the exception of our rig's converter when powering up/down our onboard Onan.

A lot of models with remote start have a relay that keeps the electrical load shunted off until the generator has been running 10-30 seconds. This way, you can shut the generator off and on from remote without having to connect or disconnect what is plugged into it.

Using breakers for switches is not a great idea over time. You can easily find the 120v feed wires to the converter and install a switch.

I have an Onan 5500 that had very similar symptoms. In my case it was the voltage regulator that was bad. Caused Genny to just shut down (not just stall). Not a cheap repair but better then a whole new Genny.
