need advise on my roof repair, as you can see in the pics it is in rough shape. whoever coated it before did a terrible job and it is blistered and pealing.

do i have to get "ALL" the old off before i can put down a new coating of EPDM? or just what comes off with a good "WASH". with pressure. i plan on cleaning all the vent and ac seams and putting the tape down first. gonna be a hellava job if all the old "MUST" come up first.
thanks for any advise on this project, bob

1. You have to pull the old rubber completely off. Then you have to glue and screw new luan decking(3/16 inch) over your old decking. Then install the glue the new rubber
2. To remove the old rubber, cut it in foot wide strips to pull off.

It looks to me like normal weathering of EPDM sheets. Except for the rubber around the seams/fixtures of course. EPDM sheeting normally weathers to a chalky grey coating, when it gets very weathered or worn then the black shows through.
I think you are good with the standard surface prep for liquid roof.

OK Stay with me.. ITS KINDA LONG ... lol

I had a TT that had a leak. So Iwas going to just repair the bad area.. I thought.. So I removed the awning and both side gutters then scraped all the old caulking off both front and rear caps.. The damage to the wood was worse that I thought and since I had already started,, might as well do the whole roof and then I would know for sure I would NEVER have any more leaks.. I pulled, scraped and pulled some more.. took forever.. but a job done right will pay for its self.. anyways..I replaced all the wet/molded wood (decking grade) I removed all vents and A/C.. bought the EPDM rubber off ebay. I cover the whole thing at night and after rolling the rubber up in a roll started at the front worked my way to the rear.. leaving a foot at each to stuff down the front and rear caps.. replaced all vents cut new gaskets for A/C.. and then stretch the rubber side to side as I replaced the gutters then the awning.. It lookd great when I was done a complete new roof and the pice of mind..

Now with the repair complete..I as soo glad it went very well...

Has the roof completely failed? Is it leaking? If not...
Clean it up good with a soft brush and something like Dawn dish soap, Murphy's Oil Soap, or Spic n Span.
Do not use a pressure washer.

Reseal the vents and seams with Dicor Self Leveling Sealant and or Eternabond Tape.

What I can see without detailed pictures of the seams is just a very dirty roof.

thanks all, no leaks at all, rubber is in good cond where i can see it.
i have the Eternabond Tape to put around all the vents and A/C. was wondering if i should put the tape at both frt and rear caps and along both sides at the seams the full length of the coach. all this after the cleaning and before the EPDM coating.

Eternabond on all the openings is a very good choice. I redid my front cap to roof seal last month. I removed all the old sealant before taping. Made for a very clean and smooth seal.

One word of warning - the product name, 'Eternabond', isn't just a catchy marketing name. The stuff really is forever. I had to remove some when reworking the front seal and the stuff was a bear to get off. The old liquid came right up with a bit of heat but not the tape.

is it OEM epdm roof
or is it rubber coated with something like liquid roof

a coating that has failed should be cleaned off as much as possible and completely redone
a real epdm roof should be washed and cleaned then checked to see if it can benefit from using the proper products on it
or whether it needs to be removed

epdm will look spotty and ugly as it ages and the white exterior flakes off
that does not mean it is bad or leaks
it can be made pretty by applying the right "restoration " coating

When my EPDM roof was 13 years old I coated it with Kool Coat from Camping world. The roof wasn't leaking but I figured do it before it leaks. Preparation is everything. First I scrubbed the roof well, rinsed it off, let it dry. Then put one full coat of their primer on let it dry. Then two coats of the Kool Coat letting it dry between coats. Well it's going on it's 5th year now and no signs of peeling or problems. Plus it stops the chalking(dandruff) that you get from EPDM.
