Have a certified welding shop reinforce your frame and hitch to 10,000lb. Be sure to keep the paper work for the job. It cost me around $800 six years ago.

I agree with Doug. I think that you are courting disaster. You will be a danger to yourself, your family, and everyone else on the road.

The V10 gets 8-9 mpg. That is what my 36'motorhome used to get.

Exactly what I did, threw in an equaizer hitch, and I converted the trailer brakes to discs on both axles. It stops on a dime and gives back a nickel in change.

What did they do exactly? I have a friend who owns a metal shop and would gladly do this for materials.

Keep in mind the Gross Combined Vehical Weight Rating too, you may not legally have any CCC left, don't know.....

why push it to the limit? if you have to tow that much maybe a super C or DP???

your choice obviously, we all pick out paths, happy trails!

Beefing up the hitch WILL NOT strengthen the other components already discussed. There are lots of used diesels out there in your price range that can SAFELY tow 6500 pounds.

There are certain things in life that we have to trust the experts about like open heart surgery, nuclear propulsion, etc. unless you happen to be an expert in that particular field. I make no claim to be a vehicle design expert so therefore trust the expertise of those who do design them. They look at the safety aspects as well as the civil liability aspects of designing a safe vehicle.

If you do tow a load so much over weight you are making a HUGE, HUGE mistake that could cost you financially in repairs from damage done overloading the systems, financially in lawsuits for damage or injuries to others, or injuries to your own family.

Why chance it? For 91K out the door there are definitely DP's out there with the tow capacity you require to make it totally unnecessary. Then there is also the issue of Ford's drivetrain warranty, what happens when/if something goes wrong?

The Ford V10, 2006 and later is an awsome engine. 362 HP is all I need. We just came back from Florida,on I-75,towing a 4800# toad. I had trouble keeping the speed under 70 without the cruise control. Uphill, through the Smokey mountains, was not a problem. only once slowed to 55MPH at 4000 RPMs. Most hills were taken at 3500 RPMs,and 62MPH. I have never gotten more than 6.7 MPG towing,or less than 5.9MPG. The car and trailer in my Avatar weighs 5000#,and our Grand Cherokee on the same trailer is 6000#.

It is refreshing to see a thread with realistic MPG numbers. Our rig averages just over 6.3MPG. Interesting is that it all depends on where I buy gas. Last trip out NJ Gas, I got 6.3, coming home with West VA gas, I got about 7.6. This is while towing my Jeep Liberty.

The Ford V10 does the job nicely. Never at a disadvantage.
