Hmmm. All the dump stations I have been to have hoses attached to non-potable water for cleaning. Often, a few dozen feet away, they will also have a potable water spigot. One would attach one's own hose to it to fill fresh water. I hope nobody confuses the non-potable cleaning hose next to the dump station with a potable spigot. Or uses their own fresh water hose for shoving down their slinky. I guess it could happen...

On edit: Map of the park shows locations of numerous water spigots

What Mitch said, I almost always travel full and would hate to have the first thing into camp be stopping before camp and filling.

With regard to filling etiquette, I agree with 'liberating' the water supply if someone's so inconsiderate to leave while filling a huge supply. And much as I understand the frustration and desire to prank them as poster stated, I certainly can't condone such a nasty response. I certainly understand it, but hope I wouldn't be that mean (not that I haven't been at times, but can't say I'm proud of that...)

You bought a tank - might as well use it. the extra weight shouldn't be a concern - you shouldn't be that tight on weight anyways!

My trailer has 50 gallons of fresh capacity under the front queen bed. My trailer tows best with higher tongue load. I have plenty of reserve on the rear axle of my Duramax pickup.
I usually tow with 50 gallons of fresh from home, but then Bend has some of the best water available anywhere.
We will often boondock enroute at a spot with no hookups. Never in a Walmart parking lot. Often at a county , NFS, or BLM site just a few miles out of our way and often for free because of a Golden Age Passport. Sometimes alongside a lake a couple of miles away from the highway but in an area of cabins, boat ramp, or picnic facility.

Hi, my fresh water tank is mounted in between my axles (tandem) and I travel with it full; Being full, lowers my center of gravity and helps with handling.

I always leave home for campsite with fresh water full, despite having potable water at every campground I have been to. Always handy to have some fresh water for those emergency roadside potty breaks. Also, after a 3-6 hour drive with 2 young children, I do not want to spend 20 minutes filling it up. I want them out of the truck! Let me park the TT and they can help set up the campsite.

Unusual as most trailers have their grey tank in the middle next to the black the fresh water tank is in the back or very close to the fresh water entry.

Also alot of trailers tend to porpus when carring a lot of water and other liquids. Design flaw yes but very common.

An additional 400# of water will not make a measurable difference in MPG and as Skip indicated the convenience of having it aboard when traveling is why we always travel with full water.

That's what we do.

I haven't used a dirty restroom since we got the trailer, LOL.

It is foolish to haul all that weight if the campgrond has a place where you can fill the tank.
Call them up and ask them
Ninty percent of campgrounds have a fresh water supply station

It's foolish to say things like "It is foolish to..." when it is clear in the original post that you do not have enough information to determine if it is foolish or not.
