I have been spending an extensive amount of time researching RV extended warranties. A company that I have been talking with offers a so-called "Optional Non Covered Part Cause of Loss" coverage. I have talked with other warranty companies about this coverage and my RV insurance company to see if this particular coverage is as great as it is being promoted.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to get a straight answer. It is an additional cost to the warranty contract that promises to cover the damage of a non covered part if it is caused by a covered part, and vice versa. So, if a non covered part (such as an engine belt) breaks and causes damage to a covered engine component, that component would be covered. Without this coverage and under this scenario, supposedly the engine component would not be covered. Alternatively, if a covered part (such as a refrigerator) damages a non covered item, such as wood moulding, the wood moulding would then be covered.
Most warranty companies do not seem to offer this coverage (including Good Sam). I have been told that this is a waste of money because "that is why you have RV insurance" (meaning the mandatory collision insurance). That doesn't make sense either. Can you clear this up for me?
"Consequential Damagages" coverage is inteneded to cover non-covered parts that are damaged by the failure of a covered part. This coverage is available on Good Sam Extended Service Plan when purchased from a Camping World RV retailer when the RV is purchased from Camping World, for an additional fee of $375. It is not available when purchased directly from Good Sam.
This coverage may provide some additional protection but in many cases the kinds of damage that would be covered by this option would also be covered by your property and casualty policy (Good Sam VIP). For instance, if a leaky pipe (covered component) destroys your flooring (non-covered part), the Consequential Damages option would cover the floor damage. So would most property and casualty policies. Good Sam ESP is intended to cover mechanical breakdowns, not property damage from colision, acts of God, water damage and so on that are typically covered by your vehicle insurance.
Hope this helps!
