My camper is an '07, had very little use before I bought it a year ago and it lived inside a shop. It's only been outside for the last year since I've owned it, and half of that was in eastern Washington state, in the desert. I noticed a long time ago the underlying rust that I knew would one day be a problem, and it's already getting bad in a hurry. It looks like it started where the powedercoat couldn't get, where the metal has never been protected inside. Is this common? Are there any fixes to help minimize it? As you can see in the one picture the powdercoat is already flaking from what I can only assume is bad prep work from the factory? Kind of annoying to have this problem when the rest of the camper is in near pristine condition.

I took mine off and sanded and cleaned them up, I then painted them with bead liner and after that I finished them off with couple coats of white duplicator. they are holding up well.

I went thru this rust problem years ago with the jacks on my old camper. This time around I had them sand the new jacks down and coat them with Line-X.
I would think you could still do the same.

Since WSDOT starting using that rust contributor (deicer) my Crappy Jacks look horrible. I have to paint them every year, my superhitch isn't fairing any better. Wish the companies would prime these things and not do the powder-coat.

Yes, common. It is made of metal, steel, so it will rust. I think it is just part of maintenance that needs to be done every couple of years so suggest sand and repaint.

Yep... mine look worse than that now...look at the tear down link and you could have them stripped an re-done. I'm thinking of having mine done in LINEX... stuff is tuff as nails....and they could do white if I'm not mistaken. The front edges have just been pelted from road rocks...going to look into that right now. Has any one ever done that yet???
