Some of the later (76 and after) 440's and 413's even had 6 pack rods in them. I have seen these myself but the only way to know is to pull the pan.

Easier: look at the harmonic balancer. The standard rods use a neutral-balance damper, the "6 pack" rod motors have a balance weight on the damper. (My friend's 74 has the 6-pack rods, it's a 440-3.)

All cast crank big block mopars have an external weight on the balancer. You could be correct that the harmonic has a differant size weight but just looking for a weighted balancer is incorrect. Most post 1972 mopars had cast cranks. Forged crank mopar engines have no weight on the balancer, well 318's do not have a weight cast or forged but we are talking about RB blocks.

Most the post 1972's I have seen where cast, I did see a couple industrial engines that had forged. One thing I learned about Mother Mopar is NEVER say that Mopar ALWAYS did it this way or that way because it will bit you in the azz. I had a friend that worked at the Chelsea testing grounds in the 70's and he said at the end (of the big block era) Mopar was just getting rid of all inventory they had, thats why some of the last year 440's got 6 pack rods. It had nothing to do with making the engine more robust, it was just the simple fact that they still had tons on 6 pack rods so insted of making more stock rods they just used up what they had.

Again: I have NEVER, not ONE SINGLE TIME seen a cast-crank 440 in a motorhome. EVERY motorhome (or HD truck) 440 I have seen had a forged steel crankshaft. The only cast-crank 440's I have seen were in cars and light-duty trucks.

Come look at mine, it has a cast crank!

And Dodge didn't install it, did they? FMC bought engines from Chrysler and installed them.

Yes, FMC did the install as it is a custom chassis and not a dodge chassis. But you did not qualify your earlier statement restict it to "installed by Dodge". You just said "any motor home".

Life is good either way!
