Another vote for public parks which we try to use exclusively - even with our 40' motorhome. We have no problems fitting into the sites of state park, national parks, forest service, COE and BLM. We also love to find a quiet place all by ourselves in the boonies. Of course, we love the West, too!! Safe travels!!

I forgot to add State Forest CGs, National Forest CGs, some County Park CGs, and of course the more than 850 COE CGs in the USA. That makes 6 different type CGs including the State Park CGs and National Park CGs I had already mentioned before that generally have much larger CG sites than most of the private CGs parking slot type sites and at usually a much cheaper daily fee too.

I don't understand when some people say they need to go to the private CG's because they have children. My kids (ages 14, 12, and 9) think the best fun is hiking, swimming (lake, ocean, or river), and fishing when we are camping. We also bring bikes, and if the CG has paved roads, they'll bring their rib-sticks also (kind of like a skateboard, but only two wheels). They know they can do the arcade stuff or swim in a pool anytime we are at home.

We don't need any of the amenities, Just Peace and Quiet
State Parks for Me Thank You!!
we do both but mostly prefer and book state parks! gotta love them!! we do!
but remember they are not all created equal. some state parks have extreme narrow roads, alot of tight annoying trees and sites are tight etc. While most I have found are wonderful, some can be a pain. but it doesn't matter, I will fit my butt into a state park site before paying for private most times

I don't think they mean that the kids must have the private amentities all the time for entertainment. I book private for kiddo because of certain activities/amenities that I want for that trip for her.
like normally I would never book a Jellystone.
but we do go every now and then for her to see Yogi!
but state parks can easily provide tons of kiddo entertainment. state parks sure entertain our family
I honestly like both, but I have kids to entertain.
We like pools, waterparks etc. as well as hiking and nature. The best part of RV'ing is you can do both.
I can enjoy the action and interaction at a private park as well as the peace and tranquility of a state park.

Well said! My sentiments exactly. Bonus points for that fact that public parks don't allow golf cars and usually have non-pet areas as well.

I always took my children to public parks rather than private. My son married a woman with two children recently. Two years ago we went camping together and he insisted they needed a private park with all amenities for the kids entertainment.
On our family camping trip last year he suggested a state park. He discovered all the amenities weren't necessary. All that is needed is to get the kids out in the woods and spend time with them. There is plenty of entertainment amongst the trees, creeks, streams, and trails.
I forgot campfires, kids are fascinated by campfires. I put my grandson in charge of building and maintaining the fire (with supervision). He loves it and takes his duties very seriously. No fancy amenities needed.

That's what I was saying in my post that some (not you) didn't realize - people that say they need to go to these places because of the kids. If people want to go to these places, that's different (I've stayed at Fort Wilderness - cheaper than any other accommodation inside Disney).
We got rid of the motorhome, and downsized the TT for the very reason that we didn't like the parking lot, or trailer park sort of setup. We like state parks, forest service, and boondocking sorts of places where you're camping. When we're looking for resort type spots, to visit cities, and that sort of stuff we stay in motels, condos, or book a cruise. It just works out better for us, and we enjoy it best that way
