I do know that California limits the length of vehicles on certain roads, you can check this out on the California State Website or contact the State Police. Somewhere I think I saw 40' is the limit for that stretch on Rt 1 but I can't swear to it.

If you use RV park reviews You can find parks that fit your requirements, read reviews and see where on the map they are.

Now that is a problem as it's illegal. Highway 1 from Hearst Castle to Monterey is one of those roads that 45 footers aren't allowed to drive on. I have no idea how strictly the CHP enforces that/

Highway 1 between Morro Bay and Carmel is absolutely beautiful. However, if you are driving it in a large vehicle you will not be able to enjoy it as you will never take your eyes off the road. Going North some of the hairpin turns are so tight you will be able to see your tail-lights. I've drivin it twice in a 38ft MH with toad and swore I would never do it again both times. I guess I had a memory block after the first time, but it was 20 years ago then on last year now.
Going South is imposible...at least for me. The shear drops into the ocean and the road without much of a shoulder make it a really scary ride.
Personally, I would enjoy the coast from the 101 on the South, Stay at FlyingFlags in Beaulton and enjoy Solvang, then head to Morro Bay, visit North in the car, return to the 101 and head North to Carmel and again enter highway 1. Take the 17 mile drive in the car in Carmel, beautiful, and camp at Moss Landing, a lovely private campground rather central to the area.
The rest of the drive all the way up North is slow, often winding, but very drivable if your not in a rush.
Happy Trails.

Not sure I understand the last post..did you leave your RV in Morro Bay, drive all the way up Rt 1 in your car ( 121 miles) then drive back to retrieve your RV? We have 2 dogs and a parrot with us so can't leave the RV for more than an over night. BTW we REALLY appreciate all this input..many, many thanks.
The problem with advice about this is it's all up to the person. I have taken Highway 1 several times and I enjoy the heck out of it. However, I would not do it unless I had all day to go from Carmel to San Simeon. If you're in a hurry don't do it, but if you want to see the California coast its great. Now if you are the type of person who can't take the RV off the freeway or if you're scared of heights, it may not be the road for you. I've seen people come on here and tell other people that they should not drive more than 300 miles in day and they say this because they can't do it. They think because they can't do it that nobody else can either. When I've gone cross country I've got more than 700 miles a day three days in a row.
Highway 1 is a fairly narrow road and is very windy with some very high cliffs on the coast side. A 35 foot motor home can fit on it just fine, but if those road conditions aren't for you then don't do it.

Here is another voice for 1 all the way. Did it northbound LA to Crescent Beach in the 36' in the signature with tow'd. Morro Beach had plenty of room for us as did Cachuma Lake Rec Area (Santa Barbara Area). Did note that SPs were as expensive or more than private parks, but much prettier locations.
Parts of the road are real twisty, but taking it slow and stopping at the pullouts to let traffic flow and to enjoy the views makes it fun. We also change off driving time so both of us get to view parts of the run.
