Us...well it would mean writing letters and going to the bank.
It may be just a matter of time til we have an epic sun storm or even a supernova from far among the stars that would destroy com sattelites.
Might have to put a real long extension cord on our land line.
No use going to the bank because their backup system is another computer. Your account balance isn't written on a piece of paper some place. It's all on the computers. And you can write letters but they won't get anywhere as it would take the post office months to hire people to replace the computer sorting system and go back to manual.

I was a systems programmer for a major property/casualty insurance company before Y2K hit. We jumped on it early because we had many three year commercial policies that were going to hit the wall in 1997.
Most of our mainframe programs were written long before the millenium, and before our computers had virtually unlimited memory. Lots of programs only carried a 2 digit year code to save space. When the computer tried to subtract 97 from 00, the answer was a negative number and the program would stop. Computers aren't very smart -they're just fast.
One of our gang wrote a program to find these kinds of coding problems in all of our programs.
It worked so well that we spun off the operation to deal with other company's programs and made a killing. Lots of companies hadn't even thought about it back in '97 and started to panic as we approached Y2K.
BTW, our entire Systems Department was in the house the night of 12/31/99 - just in case.
Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.

You would be in the dark without water (and just about every other modern convenience). Every system in this world, such as power generation and transmission, water treatment works and pumping sytems, waste water treatment works and pumping systems, and every other conceivable type of system, right down to the thermostat in your house, is run on computer chips.

It's not likely at all that Wally World would be able to sell whatever envelopes they happened to have in stock, given that they'd have no ability to scan bar codes or use their "cash registers" (which are, of course, computers). Since I assume they probably don't have a supply of functioning "old timey" cash registers stashed in the back of each store in the event of such an emergency, I guess they'd have to go back to putting price stickers on everything, tallying the total up on a piece of paper and keeping some cash in a cigar box to make change. Yeah, that's gonna work well in the short term.
And then there's the little issue of keeping up with inventory and re-stocking w/o the benefit of computers.
It would take many, many months (years?) to revert and have even a small semblance of efficiency.

That is just crazy talk!
I think I will email Homeland "Security" about this potential terroristic act being discussed here.
The complete and total breakdown in civilization is what is being discussed!
Looting and riots would breakout instantly! Just from my wife and kids alone it would be terrible to behold.

Well, first thing that would happen would be all teenagers would be rendered mute with no cell phones and no texting.
They would also have no friends because they have never talked face to face with anyone.
Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?

And omg the teenagers might actually have to read a real live book, except they couldn't check it out of the library because that requires a computer. That is if they could find the library without their GPS.

"Primitive" tribes might send us CARE packages if we're lucky :-) Because they'll be the only ones who continue with "life as they know it"
