You don't have to stay at a campground to get a propane refill. Most would be glad to make some money off of you if you just show up especially around midday when they are not busy. There are more places than you can imagine that will fill your propane tanks. Almost all freeway truck stops have propane. Another good source is a U-Haul Rental place. There are even apps for that on smartphones to find propane.
