How bad did you beat them up on price when you bought it? If you low balled them I could kind of understand.

Doesn't look like the buyer 'beat them up' at all:

The dealer probably low balled the original owner when they bought it. I agree that negotiating a price from the original owner for the stove top might be the way to go. You will probably get the best match of color that way. However, there must have been a reason the top was removed such as it being damaged. I would ask for pictures before buying it at any price.

Flowergirl,

I seen you are from Michigan. How far are you from Elkhart, IN. They have quite a few stores there that could probably help you out and you could get a heck of a deal to boot.

We have the corian top on our stove and if it was missing I wouldn't pay $10 to replace it. It rattles on the road until I remind my wife to go back and put a towell under it. It gives you that little extra counter space if you need it, but I'd be just as happy with out it. Maybe I should sell you ours for $200.

Msmith, you make me feel better.

We go to Shipsee with it several times a year. We will look there for a replacement. Thanks for the idea.

We didn't take them to the cleaners, but I cannot be sure the dealer didn't.

I'm not making them an offer....I'll look at that black stoptop with crumbs and dust for years before I buy that from the former owners. It would remind me everytime I looked at it.

And by the way...who ever decided that black would be a good color for the messiest (sp?) appliance in the kitchen??

I think I'd have just replied "Don't you think it should have come with it?" and waited for their reply.

That's just plain dirty, IMO, but this world is full of all kinds...

Tell them to enjoy the top and seek an alternative on your own. They will get zippo that way.

I'd ask them why they removed it, maybe it was broken?

Could be the previous owner was stuck with the same problem and had to come up with his own top too.

I am with you 100%. I definitely would not buy the top from the previous owners for no amount of money. They probably have absolutely no use for the top and are just being downright greedy. I have given many things away even though I may have been able to sell the items at a yard sale. I like to help people who are truly needy.
It is more blessed to give than receive.
