The Provincial Park sani-dump routine now requires total concentration, co-ordination, fast reflexes, or, failing that, extra money!

The old coin slot is gone. Too many people not paying. So now they have this fancy coin machine with flashing lights and a timer that is tied into the cover for the hole the hose drops into. Sani-by-wire!

You pay your $5 in loonies /toonies, and a green light comes on indicating that you can now lift the cover (foot pedal type) and put in your hose.

You have exactly ONE MINUTE to do this or it locks and you are out of luck. Only fix then is put in another $5 and try again.

Once your hose is in, DO NOT TRIP and kick the hose out, or you will need another $5. Hose too short and it popped out? Another $5.

OK they do warn you about this and say to have your hose all set, ready to pounce and get it in there before your minute is up.

So before you even start, lock the DW, kids, and dogs in the RV so you will have no distractions and lose your money.

If you think you have some stuff in your pipe that you want to catch in the hose as soon as you twist off the cover, remember the hose is not in the hole yet! No problem. Do not attach the hose until after you get the other end in the hole.

What about clean up? How can you hose away any mess you might have accidentally made and clean the hose now it is out of the hole and the lid has locked down again? Not too bad for that, since there is some drainage down the hole with the lid locked in place. No big lumps though.

So that wasn't too bad. You survived high tech sani. Now picture being in the morning line-up to get out of the park and the guy ahead has not read the instructions, has lost $20 in loonies, and he goes nuts and attacks the machine, destroying it! Vehicles with flashing red and blue lights everywhere! You can't back up or go ahead. Now what?

Bring a book. You can sit there and read your book until it all gets sorted out. Oh, and you might as well release the DW , kids, and dogs until it is finally your turn at the sani.

SO does the door lock down tight if you try to hold it open? Can you hold the door or block it open until you are done using it? That is not clear? Is there a time limit on how long you can take to dump the tanks?

I guess you could block it open till you got your hose in to replace the block. You would need to be careful making the switch. No room for a block with the hose in. Important to get the hose well down the hole so it does not pop out when you trip over it. Don't park too far away and put the hose in the hole, then pull it out again while trying to reach it to the RV attach point. No time limit on dumping, but once the lid goes down it locks.

So your camping buddy is right behind you in line? Keep your foot on the pedal holding the lid up (DW drives your rig ahead--she has to be released for that job)) till he drives up and gets his hose in. He now owes you $2.50!

The more they keep adding the money grabs onto the Provincial Parks, the better is looks for private campgrounds, with wifi, cable, full hookups, stores, laundry and more.

It is very pleasant in Rathtrevor or the other ones in the off-seasons with hardly anybody else in the whole place though. Half price for seniors too. Seals barking, eagles swooping.

Yes, you can block it open. Other provincial campgrounds in B.C. already have this system, when we were at North Thompson River PP last summer someone had blocked it open so the next guy didn't have to pay

I have to say, I used to push people towards our Provincial Campgrounds in BC, and Yes they are beautiful, however they are pricing them selves off my list of places to stay. I haven’t stayed in a PCG in 2 years now ,and I’m not sure when I will be back. I have found a lot of Private campgrounds that have a lot more bang for the buck, and just a tag more money. We are lucky that we live close the boarder and are spending more time in Wash. State campgrounds which also give you more bang for the buck.
I don’t want to go down the Political road, so I will say this to all political parties, wake up Victoria!

PS: that first post was a gas,,,,,,,,, I have ideas on how things could go realy bad with this "money grab" of some guy in an office in Victoria.

In talking with a PFO maintenance guy at Alice Lake recently this is going to be the "new standard" for all PP. His fear is that people will rebel and just dump after losing their money too many times. With no hole open

Instead of allowing us to pay the $5 when we register we've got a situation where we've complicated a very simple thing at great cost (machines are $13 grand per the guy's info)!!!!!!

That's a lot of "use" to break even. Changing a regi form to add sewer dump would solve that the same way would it not?

It seems we are fixing something the hard way IMHO
