Being that this is in the Begining thread I am going to try to get the intial person to think about something. Everyone asks that same question. Or WHY pay 1.7 million on a class A.
Look at this, on your tomb stone will be two numbers and a dash. Birth/Death but noone of that matters. Its what happened during that little dash that will make the difference. Just as in camping, site 20, you in site 21 and site 22. It's what happens in site 21 that matters.

Everyone has different ways of spending their money. I have friends that never took a vacation or traveled for their entire lives and now are going to go wild with a new boat and travel up and down the coast. I'm have always had used TT and have taken the family all over the place. My grown kids have great memories and have told me on several occasions that camping is one of the highlights of their youths. I still camp in a used 2000 MH. I don't need a $250,000 unit to enjoy my time away from work. Enjoy what you have ... I'm thankful for what I have.

True, but somebody had to buy it new before you could buy it used.

Interesting topic. It is one thing to see a 55+ plus couple or individual driving around a nice truck and 5th or a newer big motorhome and understand that they probably worked and saved most of their life and ultimately decided it is what they want and they spend the $$$ for it and enjoy it. Then there is another side when I see lots of young parents in their 30s (like us) spending mucho bucks on trucks and trailers or motorhomes. My guess is that many (not all) have big payments and save little or nothing for college or retirement.

Hey, I'm back from Florida in my little Orbit TT. Had a ball and took your all's advice and just let it happen. No problem. We went all over the state. Gas is the only thing that hurt.
Anyway, in our travels we saw some beautiful, outrageous units. Very nice people. The cherry on the sundae came when I saw a HUGE a$$ beautiful coach that was pulling a pickup truck and the tailgate wasdown on the truck and in the bed was a very large golf cart!!!!
Holy mother of pearl!!!

Most of us just knocked off a bank or armored car . Seriously, for ours we just scrimped, sacrificed, and saved for 10 years to get the down payment then financed the rest. We chose what we wanted, use it when we can, and have fun. Whenever we can afford it we pay extra to the principal.

Personally, my plan is in motion already and I am only 48. I will have everything, including the house paid off when I am 55. Then, I will start "making payments" on the retirement coach, so that by the time I retire, I will not only have a paid for house, but the cash to buy my dream RV! And more importantly, still live life in the interim. Just learning to live within my means. See, I am not a wealthy man, nor do I have a high paying job, but I am learning and actually the roots of this plan came from listening to some people on this site!
Good luck and Happy Camping!

Some of it is of course what you earn, and some is what you do with what you earn. I got into a discussion with a guy at work a couple of years ago. We took the MH to FL and it happened, while we were down there traded in our toad on a new one. his comment was "must be nice to travel in that big RV and buy a new car." I happen to know he makes more money than I do. BUT, he and his wife both smoke, 3 packs a day combined. $8/pack around here. They pay more in cigarettes every month than I pay for the MH and car combined.
Then, I'm sure that people look at what we do a think we waste money and can only afford to drive a Suzuki and not a Mercedes.
I started in tents, then TT, then used MH, then eventually new. We enjoyed them all equally. There are some months that I wish we had the paid for used MH. I like the biker motto. I'ts not what you ride it's that you ride."

A lot of baby boomers are now inheriting their parent's estates. Some of these estates are substantial. Others are people with high incomes like Dr's and lawyers, builders etc. Others are paying monthly payments for their MHs whether they can afford it or not.

We are baby boomer age and cannot now or ever be able to afford anything like I am seeing. We just got out of a tent this year after 40 in a tent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am just curious and no one has to respond to this nosey question
See above. Why feel like a stepchild if you're happy with your 18' TT? I have a 28' TT and couldn't care less what kind of RV or tent is parked next to me at the CGs.

The only place where I got bad vibes, like I wasn't welcomed is at a CG where there are a lot of seasonals. I always get the feeling they don't like us transients encroaching on there turf. But then again, I just brush it off with the thought that they're stuck here for the season and I can go visit any place I want.
That's why I never get a golf club membership. I don't want to be stuck at one course. Half the fun is experiencing different courses!
