I know parts are super hard to find but Im hoping maybe someone has replaced their compressor before on their low profile AirV?

Or maybe someone out there has a busted control unit but good upper unit to part out?

Actually, the control board is very likely a propertary part only used by carrier. That said, the control technology (What it has to do) is very common and you can put a "Generic" board in there to do it no problem... The problem is finding a generic board.

The compressor, if it needs replacement, I would recommend complete replacement (Save the blower motor) same for condenser and evaporator.

The blower motor is sold for somethign like 500 dollars (OEM TYPE) or 175 to 260 by other companies (Some minor mods needed to the mounting bracket, NO mods to the Air conditioner itself) Granger Industrial supply has the needed motor, So does Easton Electric Motors in Port Huron, MI.

Thanks wa8yxm,

The motors and control board seem fine but the compressor is seized. That is where my problem comes. Looked all over Tecumseh's site and cant even find the compressor. Searched Grainger and Johnstone but similar spec compressors are all for home window units (they are bottom mount, not side mount). Was hoping maybe someone had replaced their compressor and had success tracking down an alternative.

Only other hope is to find someone with a busted control board willing to sell me their top half

If I have to go the route of complete unit replacement, I guess a Duotherm would be the only 15k BTU option? I dont see one from Coleman in "low profile"

You may want to look at this Dometic model:

I looked at those but they require a theromstat. This is going in a car trailer and I dunno if I want to start taking panels apart to run wiring. The old Carrier just had the controls on the bottom of the unit. I dont think the model linked has that...

Actually upon further research it looks like the Duotherm 15k BTU will work with their "ADB" (Air Distribution Box). Sold separately of course. I wonder if I could rig this up to work with the Carrier ADB. Im sure the controls would work as you are just matching wires, but the layout of the ducting might not match up.

IF the compressor is BAD, you NEVER replace the compressor. They do NOT even supply compressors as a replacement part as they are too expensive. Carrier/Dometic/RVP (Coleman) do not offer compressors. It is cheaper to replace the upper unit. Of course, you do not have that option as Carrier is out of the RV business and finding a replacement upper unit will be hard. Doug

I have looked without success for two condenser blower motors carrier p/n 54-50103-00

The original vendor supplying carrier doesn't make them any more, and Grangier couldn't match the spec.

If you throw in the towel on your unit, I'll buy the condenser blower motor off of you....

Dan, would you also consider selling your upper unit w/ the compressor?

Where are you located?

I have done 4 repairs the last year involving Heartland trailers with Carrier AC units,,all of them had extended warranties and they all got new upper and lower units and thermostat wiring, due to the lack of Carrier parts. In most cases the upper unit was still good and I gave them away as I don't have room to store all that stuff.
What I'm trying to say is,find a dealer (maybe a heartland dealer, but they aren't the only ones who used carrier)and they may some upper units laying around
hope this helps
Rich
