Hi Everyone New member here checking in.
I am Retired Navy Vet working at Pearl Harbor Naval ship yard in Hawaii, no camping 5th wheel Trailers or truck campers out here . I will be retiring i a few years and return to the main land us. I am Doing my reviews on line and want to get back into camping and Rving. I am Reviewing the P/U trucks Ford F-350 6.7L Dually 4x4 and the Chevy 3500 LTZ 6.6L 4X4 Diesels. I have owned Fords most of my life so im partial to Fords. Kelly Blue Book has the Ford F-350 the best of the top three( Ford,Chevy and Dodge) for power and towing, but list Chevy 3500 LTZ as the best for towing stability TT and 5th wheels, and a Higher pay load. Kelly blue book also commented that all three trucks are all so close that it might come down to personnel preference, loyal to the brand as they say. I would like to ask for some advise.
Thank you for your time
Scotty16

Since Ford doesn't seem to want to honor the warranty on their new 6.7 diesel, I would have to go with the GM truck instead. GM is honoring their warranty at least.

Really though, I'd rather have the Dodge/Cummins than either of the other two. This is comming from a Ford guy. There are currently 6 Fords in our household. If I were buying a brand new diesel dually pickup, a Dodge would be joining the pack instead.

HERE is 91 pages of reading, which will explain why I wouldn't want a new Ford 6.7 diesel, with it's non-existant 'warranty'.

Warranty issues aside, both are capable trucks. There are signifignant differences between them. Spend some time at each brands forums to see for youself.
I chose the GM this time, but my reasons may not be your reasons.

I wouldn't get a Dodge at this time. They are still trying to make a primitive emissions system work. Lots of issues there. The Dodge would work well and be the choice IF you are able to remove the emissions stuff. It is the easiest one to do this on, and that fixes all of it's downsides.

The GM all the way. A proven drive train vs the worst warranty coverage of the big 3 it's a no brainer. Read up on Ford's treatment of their diesel owners before you buy. I loved my 7.3, but it's the last Ford unless I can find another one. I'm a Chevy guy, but will look hard at Cummins when we retire in a few years.

I agree with the others. The beefed up Chevy frame with the Allison Duramax combo vs. the Ford engine/warranty woes. I do like the overall Ford truck better however the Chevy drive train is tested and reliable. Ford continues to have fuel warranty issues.
Chevy would be a no brainer for me.

For 35 years, my driveway has never had any other vehicle but a Ford parked in it. Right now there is a 2002 F150 SuperCrew, a 2011 F150 EcoBoost SuperCrew and my 2011 F350 6.7 SuperDuty sitting there. Is there a bit of Ford loyalty showing here? After my 6 week battle with Ford over HPFP warranty denial and the resulting $10,030 repair, another brand will be residing there soon.Cross brand loyalty and customer appreciation off the list for reasons to buy a Ford.

Like the dog said, check out the brands. For me, GM's smaller crew cab is a deal breaker. After having the room and comfort that I have enjoyed to date, I just do not want to be cramped...and, yes, as I look to the future, I have driven the GM. It appears the new large cab GM's are not arriving until 2014.

The Dodge is a sweet truck. Lot's of room and a deluxe interior. I never thought I would ever speak so nicely about the Dodge...but... no DEF emissions control is a deal breaker. The Dodge cab/chassis has DEF now. Hopefully, the pickups will get this important performance feature in 2013. If it does, a new Dodge 3500 Dually Laramie Limited will take a spot in my driveway...

Shame on Ford

Out of those two choices, I'd probably go with the GM Duramax.

It generally outperforms the Ford LINK, though not by much. It has a better exhaust brake, and a warranty that will be honored.

If I was the shopper, I'd check out all three, but I'd lean to the RAM/Cummins or the GM/Duramax first.

While I am not in the market right now sounds like I need to take a hard look at the Ram. My prior impression has been Dodge is not rugged enough for use as a work truck. The Ford is still the toughest of the bunch in terms of abuse and durability. Too bad they still have reliability and warranty issues I like my Chevy but it is not a rugged as the Ford.
I consider Dodge even more fragile, maybe I'm wrong about that!

Lots of mis information about Dodge here so far. But since you did not ask about Dodge I will not comment on those false stories. Ford and GM both use DEF injection to aid in reducing emissions. It is an added cost. And reliability so far is still an unproven item. Drive them both and decide which one YOU actually preferr. That is the only way you will know which one you want.

Two things, first what do most hot shoters drive? Second how many GM or Ford trucks out there with over 500,000 miles on them still working vs Dodges?
