One of the mines near me bought 3 humvees like the military has (not the hummer like we can buy) and were using 2 of em for parts trying to keep the last one running within a year, so the military thing doesnt work for me.

Hey Scott16, I plowed through the 90-plus pages posted on Ford & GM HP Fuel Pump failures and boiled it down to this:
Per NHTSA reports, Ford & GM are suffering Bosch fuel pump failures at an apparent rate of about 6 per 1000 trucks. They both use the identical pump while Dodge uses a different lower pressure pump. For whatever reason, reports in Canada show a failure rate around 4 per 1000 trucks. Maybe weather, maybe better minimum standards for fuel quality, maybe coincidence. I don't think anybody really knows the failure mode or root cause, but the main thing is these pumps are under-designed and do not handle water, gasoline, or DE Fluid. They also have failed in cases where good quality diesel fuel was exclusively used, such as Ricatic's problem. The huge message is the difference GM owners and Ford owners have had with warranty claims. It appears GM is honoring more/most/all? claims when these pumps crater. Ford is denying some/most? claims and taking the position that fuel quality is the cause and is the owner's problem.
I own a 2011 F350 dually with 31k miles on it and have been completely happy with the truck to date. I will be less happy if my pump craters and Ford denies warranty. To be honest, if I was making the decision again today I would likely still choose the Ford by a narrow margin.

Thanks for your reply, i'll do more research. Maybe we'll get lucky and Ford might up grade their Bosch Fuel Pump for the F-350 in the next year or two.

It is not as much that Ford needs to upgrade the HPFP...they use the same pump as GM...Ford needs to stop abusing their customers...The "dog" has it right...one manufacturer means no choices and the bailout basher's really have placed themselves in that no choice position...

...and Scott, don't buy into the save "$3000 and no warranty" nonsense. I know it was a silly idea offered by a koolaid fueled Ford guy but all three of the manufacturers build trucks that are very complicated, technically challenging to diagnose and very expensive to fix. My 2011 Ford 6.7 has been in the dealership 8 times in 47,000 miles. Here is the list:

3500 miles Engine fan clutch Warranty

8000 miles Electrical problem with the rear lighting Warranty

24000 miles Replaced 1 fuel injector Warranty

26000 miles Re-flash computer for transmission shifting updates Warranty

35000 miles Replaced HPF system No Warranty

41000 miles Replaced NOX sensor

44000 miles Check engine light Warranty

46000 miles Same CEL Warranty

Just one truck out of thousands...but if it is your truck...it is a huge issue...buy the GM...they will at least stand behind the truck...or buy a Dodge...they still use a reliable HPFP...

Regards

Ricatic,
Thanks for all the information really appreciate it. I will be looking into the HD LTZ 4X4 Chevy a lot more and also the HD Laramie Dodge 4X4, all dually even if didn't mention it. They were on the list, just didn't think it would fit in the Header. I will test drive all beforehand to make sure which one is right, and on the same day. I plan on buying with cash and getting the warranty. I have been saving for the last three years.
Thanks again

I don't think so, The newest Sherman tank was made in the late 1940's.

I doubt you could find more than a handful of people who buy a new truck with the intention of putting more than 200,000 miles on it let alone 500,000 and I wouldn't pay an extra dollar for an engine that is good to a 1000,000 miles over one that is good to 500,000. I will probably be replacing my truck before it hits 60,000 miles.

Your post just proves a point, if you need a truck every 3 years and have money to burn Ford is #1. If you need a truck to last like most of us, you might look elsewhere. Like there are all these so called (used truck with 5 miles on them). Sure we all believed that load of cra*. I have better things to spend money on other than a new truck every 3 years. Hell my last GMC lasted 20 years. Our three 6.0's couldn't even make it a year.
Where is that elevator garage thread anyway, it must have been you.

And your post proves a point as well...Your 20 year old truck must of spent most of it's life sitting in a garage! No big deal...

Hey Guppy
Another point proves YOU never have facts, only speculation. Even a modest 12k per year nets over 240k miles in 20 years. I happen to know the new owner also and she's still pullin boats to the river. Better than I can say about his 04 6.

This cracks me up. Gm was a marketing genius using an "Allison" trans. The allison in the light duty gm pick ups are not the same used in the military and medium/heavy duty trucks.

Yep, totally different tranny. They use the Allison 1000 in the GM pickups. It is the smallest, lightest duty transmission Allison makes for automotive applications. The Allisons used in real trucks, buses and military vehicles are far heavier duty than the 1000.

The thing that made my buddy trade his 2008 F-250 in for a new 2012 Chevy 3500 was the floor space on the passenger side. The Fords and to a lesser amount the Dodges have a hump ant sticks out on the passenger floor. My buddy that is 6'2" was not comfortable and said he just could not travel for any distance while sitting there.

He loved his Ford but when looking at new trucks that was one of the big things that he looked at.

By the way he is reporting that he is averaging 11.2 mpg towing a 36 foot Carriage Cameo. So far they have 4,500 miles on the new truck and almost all of it is towing as they are Fulltimers.
