Well folks, I'm with Mowermech... In my 68 years, I've never heard this terminology before and I've been a car nut my entire life. Must be a east coast or Canuck thing.

No, it's a FORUM thing.

If you care to go back through past posts, you will lose count of the number of times people have been told that the mileage computers in their vehicles LIE about the vehicle's fuel economy. Ergo, "lie-o-meter."

It's not rocket science to figure out, and there's no need to play the part of the grumpy old phart complaining about "the young'uns and their rock and/or roll music."

Well, let's see...
Me, member of the Forum since 6/28/03, 19,632 posts (6.09 per day).
Don't remember ever hearing of "lie-o-meter"

lanerd: Member since 3/3/03, 4,568 posts (1.37 per day).
Never heard of "lie-o-meter".

Yep, I guess we just don't spend enough time on the forums...

Lie-ometer!?!?!

new to me too!

generally speaking, the one on my truck is with in .5mpg if I use a tank or 2 or 3 and keep it going. IT gets screwed up if you switch from freeway to city to freeway to city like every 10 miles or so on a given tank tho. especially the miles to fill up meter.

Bck to you regularly scheduled disCUSSion.

"lie-o-meter"??
What the heck is that?
If you are going to make up your own terminology, at least relate it to something that everybody knows!
I ASSUME you are referring to the computer indicated MPG readout. Actually, I have found mine to be fairly close in the "average" mode, and WAY out in left field in the "instant" mode (in the "instant" mode, it often indicates 99MPG for brief periods!).

Sounds like good advice. I had the speedometer recalibrated after I put new tires on it, and now the speedo checks out against roadside radar, so that part of the calculation is accurate. Next tank of gas I'll hand-calculate the mileage.

The results are in. Ran the truck for 460 miles of backroad and mostly freeway travel. "Lie-o-meter" said 18.2 mpg, hand calculated at 18.12. That's close enough for me.
