just thought I would ask the question, I am looking at stopping overnight with my family overnight in Cortland, NY at the Walmart. I know lots of people do this but is it safe? Will Walmart bother us or kick us out?
Thanks

Just go in the store and ask the manager if it's OK to overnight. Unless there is a local law preventing it your answer will most of the time be yes.

Welcome to the forum. Overnighting at WalMart or other places is usually safe and you will have no problems. I always ask the manager if it is okay to stay overnight.
Check Free Campgrounds, you may find another option close by if WalMart doesn't allow ovenighting.

We've never had any problems with safety. We've been very nicely asked to move due to local ordinances a few times. I use this site to check the Walmarts first. http://www.allstays.com/c/wal-mart-locations-map.htm It's not always accurate.

I nearly always overnight at a Wal-Mart. All have security cameras and many have full time security, Heck, they even help me park. Love the Bertoni skillet dinners.

Yep, ask management if its ok, and offering the night security a coffee or snack wont hurt either.

I was at Walmart in Saskatoon last week and there were signs posted about no over nighting etc.One sign was a little harder to read as a 5th.wheel was parked under it.Unhooked 3 slides out, wheels blocked and leveled,no apparent tow vehicle around.Parked over in the next row was a travel trailer, same situation.Tow sign information signage was also on posts.Asked Walmart what was up and was told that units are towed, looks like maybe a City bylaw, not Walmart.

We were on the way to FL from MI and stopped in a Walmart in GA to get some sleep. As we were parking a truck pulled up and the guy driving asked us for money to get to the next town. We said "no" rolled up the truck window and left. Since then we stayed in a different Walmart with no trouble at all.
