They haven't hit us yet but they tried to get a friend.
A person purporting to be from AARP called and said they had some important updates they had to give to our Friend. He said the information was technical and he would read it for them He go to the point of trying to not taking no several times. He said he had get some additional information and they needed to sign some forms.
Our Friend told him he spoke, read and understood English perfectly well and send him the information and form and he would read it and hung up.
The Scam Artist figure anyone subscribing to AARP or other such organizations are dithering old fools and and easily duped.
Friend called AARP and was told AARP doesn't send anyone out.
Of course he didn't get any mail from AARP on the subject.
It appears it is pretty easy to get phone numbers and email addresses etc from any business. They probably sell the information.
We got an email supposedly from our Real Estate Person, supposedly in dire straights wanting us to send money overseas.

I have found a simple solution to phone and email scams.
If it is a phone call and I do not personally know the person calling, I hang up.
There is no valid reason for anyone who I don't know to call me, so I hang up. Problem solved.
For email scams I have a Mailwasher program that automatically deletes and bounces any email I receive that is from someone that is not on my recipient list. I don't even see the emails. Once again, problem solved.
There is no reason to talk to a stranger on the phone and no reason to open an email from someone you do not know.

Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?

Caller Id!!

Do not know the number we do not answer. If they really know us they'll call back. Will be glad when elections are over. I do not need someone to tell me how to vote!!

Our landline phone announces the name of who's calling, without picking it up. Don't have to deal with unwanted calls. The dozens of rings, sometime gets annoying.

There is very little real fun in my life.
Snarling at unwanted phone calls is part of it.
the problem is, the dag-nab idiots always hang up on me!
Political pollsters are really fun, though! It is great messing with their minds!

What, are you saying that someone would actually try to scam me out of my money over the phone...???

I just don't believe that anyone would stoop that low.
