Am I a dummy or are there other motorhome owners with the Ford chassis that have the One-Touch Integrated Start and didn't know it?? Now I understand why when I let off on the key a couple of times the engine continued to crank until it started. I guess I need to read more.

It appears they implemented the One touch integrated start system in 2007, here's a link to some info on it.

GM has incorporated this in all their pass cars as well - helps with cold starts to not rely on "operator" to start car correctly.

Wow something new I did not know about.

So it keeps cranking over the motor until it starts? What if you smell smoke and decided not to start the engine afterall?

My buddy always turns on the key, lets the fuel pump pressurize everything, then turns to the start position about 10 seconds later, and the starter is not running as long before it starts.

Most vehicles with fuel injection never require a long cranking period. All of the GM and Ford vehicles I've had in the past 10yrs are all like that. Just a touch of the key and release, they fire right up.

Well, hopefully the days of a weak starter not fully engaging the flywheel are over. Imagine hearing that noise for a full 10 seconds?

Are we really getting that lazy that we would even consider wanting a feature like this?

Per Fords SVE Bulletin #Q-151 dated 12/23/2006.

One-Touch Integrated Start (OTIS):

The subject vehicles have One-Touch Integrated Start (OTIS), a computer-assisted cranking system. This feature assists in starting the engine. If the ignition key is turned to the START position and released when the engine begins cranking, the engine may continue cranking for up to 10 seconds or until the vehicle starts.

Once the ignition is turned to the START position, the PCM reads starter motor request (SMR)from the ignition switch and gains control of the starter engagement. The customer is no longer in the loop after the initial crank request, the customer may release the key to the RUN/START position. The PCM will disengage the starter motor based on the following events:

• The engine is started (rpm threshold)
• A set time has been exceeded
• The ignition key has been turned to the OFF position
