I'm thinking of adding some ground effect lighting on my HTT. I was considering putting these in on the frame either pointing down or out the side of the frame(as low as I can get them). Install is easy, just drill a 3/4" hole, push the wires through and pop the grommet and light in place. They are LED (lifetime warranty) and I can get them for around $4.50 ea through work. I would then run wiring along the frame to a switch I would mount near the battery. Then jump right to the battery. Any one ever try this and are there any downfalls to the plan??? Here is a link to the light. http://www.custerproducts.com/3-4-single-diode-led-light
I would probably run them down the entry side of the trailer and maybe a few on the opposite side near the outside shower, power hookup and water hookup.
I'm trying to accomplish a look of some courtesy lights. I may even put a couple near the tongue of the trailer. Any ideas, thoughts, experience etc... would be appreciated!

Here is what mine look like. It was a good decision. I used a three light single wire led bar. I think I have four on the one side of the unit. It throws a nice amount of light. I did not do the other side because I was concerned about bothering neighbors.

At $4.50 you must be looking at the amber or red. The white version of that light puts out a good deal more light but just about doubles the cost. Check again on the warranty on those lights. I don't think Custer offers a lifetime warranty on any of their products. That said I have used those lights over the last couple of years on several projects and have been very pleased with them.

I wonder how many 3/4-inch holes in the frame would weaken things... Probably none but the thought did enter my mind...

I thought of this also RoyB. I wouldn't go crazy by any means. I was thinking maybe 3-4 on the main side of the trailer. Shouldn't hurt the frame.
CREATO, I thought of running the switch inside. I'm not sure if I am capable of doing so. I would worry I would not find a good spot to run the wires that would not eventually leak. I will look into it though. I would prefer to have it inside.
Dieselgem...Looks good! This is what I looking to accomplish! I will definitely take neighbors into consideration...I was not thinking about that before. Thanks! By the way, where did you put the switch??
downtheroad, I like the dark also, but when I get near the trailer, I like to see whats on the ground. I have 3 kids and they tend to leave shoes and whatever laying around. I was actually thinking I could not use the normal courtesy light on the trailer if I had these installed which would probably end up being a little darker in the area...just brighter near the ground. JMO
reasly, I was looking to use the amber. Yes, the clear are about double. We sell the Custer lights and they warranty most of their LED lights of lifetime. We've actually called them when we have a bad light and they just send a new one. No need to even send in the old one. Great customer service so far.
Thanks everyone for the ideas and opinions...this is helping me a great deal in what I need to consider. Keep the ideas coming!!!

Instead of drilling 3/4" holes in your frame, just tech screw a piece of sheet metal to the frame and drill your hole in that.
We also do business with Custer and while I have yet to be turned down on a claim, in the 7 years that I have been buying from the I have yet to see a stated policy.

My DW mentioned adding a light for the steps. I lille the led setup you've got going. I'll have to try it.

This is a good idea. I may just try this. My trailer is in storage...wish it were here so I could get a look at it and see what is going to work for me.
I guess I have not seen a written statement from Custer either. I do know some of their stuff has the warranty written into the description. Usually those are for a shorter time frame.
